{"id":1002782,"date":"2018-10-29T16:58:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T20:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/democrats.org\/?p=1002782"},"modified":"2024-05-23T20:15:14","modified_gmt":"2024-05-23T20:15:14","slug":"dnc-on-trump-administration-plans-to-send-5000-troops-to-the-southern-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/democrats.org\/news\/dnc-on-trump-administration-plans-to-send-5000-troops-to-the-southern-border\/","title":{"rendered":"DNC on Trump Administration Plans to Send 5,000 Troops to the Southern Border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">DNC AAPI Media Director John Santos released the following statement in response to the Trump administration\u2019s plan to send 5,000 troops to the southern border:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cPresident Trump&#8217;s plan to send more than 5,000 troops to the southern border is a wasteful misuse of government resources designed to distract voters from the GOP\u2019s failures to address issues like health care and stagnant wages that are important to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAAPI voters are increasingly alarmed of President Trump\u2019s hostile rhetoric against foreigners and immigrants, especially since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2017\/09\/08\/key-facts-about-asian-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">almost two-thirds of AAPIs are born outside of the country<\/a>. While a <a href=\"http:\/\/aapidata.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/2018-AA-Voter-Survey-report-Oct9.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">majority of AAPI voters<\/a> approve of providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and ensuring access to government services to all immigrants regardless of their status, President Trump\u2019s administration has made a policy out of harassing and dehumanizing those who are coming to our country in search for a better life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe have seen this before: Faced with an inability to unite the country and to solve the major issues facing us, Trump time and again resorts to inflaming tensions and hatred towards immigrants.
