Trump promised autoworkers that they wouldn\u2019t lose one plant if he was elected and that General Motors would build in the United States because of him. Now, General Motors is planning to close multiple factories and lay off even more workers.<\/p>\n

THEN: Trump promised that General Motors would expand jobs in the U.S. because of him.<\/p>\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cGeneral Motors will lay off 14,700 factory and white-collar workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it restructures to cut costs and focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n

THIS ISN\u2019T THE FIRST TIME: General Motors had already cut thousands of jobs despite Trump\u2019s promises.<\/p>\n

Detroit Free Press<\/a>: \u201cAnd in March 2017, he praised General Motors when he flew to Detroit to highlight the importance of American manufacturing. That same day, GM announced plans for 900 new or retained jobs in Michigan within 12 months.\u00a0 This week, GM confirmed a net loss of 3,500 hourly manufacturing jobs in 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n

CNN Money<\/a>: \u201cGeneral Motors is cutting factory jobs again. The automaker will eliminate one of two shifts at its Warren, Michigan plant, which makes transmissions.
