A recent study found that children are bearing the brunt of efforts by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans to take away access to affordable health care from millions of Americans. Nationwide, the uninsured rate among children rose by 276,000 in 2017. Children living in western states are some of the worst-affected:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The increasing number of uninsured children is a direct result of Trump\u2019s assault on affordable health care.<\/p>\n

Vox<\/a>: \u201cThe most likely culprits, per the report: the Republican pursuit of Obamacare repeal and their success in repealing the individual mandate; the Trump administration\u2019s regulations that undermine the health care law; Congress allowed an unprecedented lapse in funding authorization for the Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The number of uninsured children in the U.S. grew substantially in multiple western states.<\/p>\n

Nevada Public Radio<\/a>: \u201cThe number of children without health insurance rose in every state last year, including Nevada. Nevada\u2019s rate of uninsured was among the highest in the nation, behind only Texas, Alaska, Wyoming and Oklahoma.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The number of uninsured Nevadan children grew for the first time since 2012.<\/p>\n

Nevada Current<\/a>: \u201c\u2018It had been going down for almost a decade,\u2019 says Emma Rodriguez, the Children\u2019s Health Policy Manager with the Children\u2019s Advocacy Alliance. \u2018This is really concerning that we are headed in the wrong direction with the latest increase.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Arizona has one of the worst rates of uninsured children in the nation.<\/p>\n

Arizona Republic<\/a>: \u201cThe report, released Thursday, identified Arizona as one of 12 states with \u2018significantly higher\u2019 rates of uninsured children \u2014 7.7 percent \u2014 \u00a0than the 2017 national average of 5 percent. The rate is important, child advocates say because kids need health care to succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Utah\u2019s rate of uninsured children outpaced the national average.<\/p>\n

State of Reform<\/a>: \u201cIn addition to having significant growth in the rate of uninsured children, Utah also is one of 12 states with rates significantly higher than the national average. In 2017, Utah had a rate of 7.3 percent, compared to the national 5 percent.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
