As the Trump Shutdown enters its 17th day, more Americans across the country are hurting. Thousands of families who rely on HUD for affordable housing could face eviction; our airports are less secure; millions of Americans could soon see reductions in food assistance; and national parks face years of long-term damage. Here\u2019s the latest:<\/p>\n

The Trump Shutdown is hurting low-income families and the elderly who rely on HUD for subsidized housing.<\/p>\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cAs the shutdown drags on, it\u2019s jeopardizing the welfare of those who live in HUD-subsidized housing, including low-income families and the elderly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thousands of tenants could be evicted from their homes as a result of the Trump Shutdown.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cThe Department of Housing and Urban Development sent letters to 1,500 landlords Friday as part of a last-minute effort to prevent the eviction of thousands of tenants. A lot of those tenants live in units covered by a HUD program that many agency officials didn\u2019t realize had expired on Jan. 1 and that they are now unable to renew.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump Shutdown is causing air travel to be less secure as TSA officers are calling in sick after being forced to work for weeks without pay.<\/p>\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cHundreds of Transportation Security Administration officers, who are required to work without paychecks through the partial government shutdown, have called out from work this week from at least four major airports, according to two senior agency officials and three TSA employee union officials. The mass call outs could inevitably mean air travel is less secure, especially as the shutdown enters its second week with no clear end to the political stalemate in sight.\u201d<\/p>\n
