DNC Chair Jaime Harrison and DNC Disability Caucus Chair Kerri Evelyn Harris issued the following statement marking the 33rd anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, we celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a monumental step towards the realization of a more just, equitable, and accessible nation for all Americans. For far too long, Americans with disabilities faced barriers to public life that prevented them from having the same access to public services as millions of other Americans. The ADA ushered in a new era for Americans with disabilities by setting forth a lasting foundation for equality that still stands firm to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the three decades since the ADA was signed, Democrats have been steadfast in our commitment to building a country where all Americans are able to thrive, especially as MAGA Republicans threaten to undermine the Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security programs Americans with disabilities rely on. Under President Biden’s leadership, we have seen the federal workplace become more accommodating for individuals with disabilities, and we have witnessed historic investments in community-based disability services and support for individuals with disabilities made possible by the American Rescue Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn this day, we celebrate the accomplishments of the ADA while recognizing that the battle for inclusion is far from over. Democrats will never stop fighting for a nation that embraces, uplifts, and invests in all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
