As Nikki Haley rolls out her MAGAnomics agenda today, remember that after putting the wealthy and corporations over working families as governor of South Carolina, Haley is now running on an extreme agenda of gutting Social Security and Medicare and making permanent Donald Trump\u2019s tax scam that increased the deficit and gave hundreds of billions in tax breaks to the top one percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley wants to make permanent Donald Trump\u2019s tax giveaways that were skewed toward the ultra-wealthy and biggest corporations. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley<\/a>: \u201cWell I think what I\u2019d like to see is us go back to what Trump had under the tax cuts under him \u2026 I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ITEP<\/a>: In the final year of Trump\u2019s presidency, the richest 5% of American taxpayers were projected to receive 51% of the share of tax cuts under the Republican tax bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ProPublica<\/a>: \u201cIn the first year after Trump signed the legislation, just 82 ultrawealthy households collectively walked away with more than $1 billion in total savings, an analysis of confidential tax records shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times\u2019 David Leonhardt<\/a>: \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s 2017 tax cut, which was largely a handout to the rich \u2026 helped push the tax rate on the 400 wealthiest households below the rates for almost everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley has a yearslong record of trying to cut Social Security and Medicare and is now campaigning on ending these programs as we know them, which would be devastating for working families and seniors across the country. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cRepublican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is proposing changes to entitlement programs for younger generations, opening the door to potential cuts to Social Security and Medicare if elected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley<\/a>: \u201cAny candidate that says they\u2019re not going to touch entitlements, means that they\u2019re basically going to go into office and leave America bankrupt. \u2026 We change retirement age to reflect life expectancy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cNikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador who is planning to announce her own presidential bid this month, also praised Ryan\u2019s Medicare proposal at the time and said lawmakers should examine Medicare and Social Security spending to address federal debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018What they need to be doing is looking at entitlements,\u2019 Haley said in a 2010 interview on Fox News. \u2018Look at Social Security. Look at Medicaid. Look at Medicare. Look at these things, and let\u2019s actually go to the heart of what is causing government to grow, and tackle that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Semafor<\/a>: \u201cAs governor of South Carolina at the time, Nikki Haley praised the [Paul Ryan] fiscal blueprint for \u2018trying to bring common sense to this world of insanity.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley\u2019s MAGAnomics agenda comes as no surprise: As governor of South Carolina, she supported eliminating the state\u2019s corporate income tax as part of an agenda that benefitted corporations\u2019 bottom lines over hardworking South Carolinians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aiken Standard<\/a>: \u201cGov.-elect Nikki Haley, who takes office next week, campaigned on eliminating the state\u2019s corporate income tax.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Augusta Chronicle<\/a>: \u201cState budget advisers predict eliminating South Carolina\u2019s corporate income tax over four years, as both Haley and House Republicans propose, would reduce state revenues by $61.6 million in the first year and $218.3 million annually when the phase-out is complete. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley<\/a>: \u201cWe discourage any companies that have unions from wanting to come to South Carolina because we don\u2019t want to taint the water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley<\/a> in 2012: \u201cWe\u2019ll make the unions understand full well that they are not needed, not wanted and not welcome in the state of South Carolina.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: \u201cAs governor-elect, Haley announced she was appointing a veteran anti-union lawyer as head of South Carolina\u2019s Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation to help her \u2018fight the unions,\u2019 including at the soon-to-open Boeing plant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street Journal<\/a>: \u201cNikki Haley frequently questions the use of public money to help corporations as she campaigns for the Republican presidential nomination, but her tone was significantly different when it came to interests in South Carolina. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a state legislator and candidate for governor, Ms. Haley supported a 2009 economic development package for Boeing Co. valued at as much as $900 million that helped land the company\u2019s 787 Dreamliner production facility in this city. A few years later, as governor, she signed into law an additional $120 million for the aerospace company as part of an expansion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter accepting a seat on Boeing\u2019s board of directors following her time in the Trump administration, she became an opponent of the company\u2019s potential request for government assistance as the possibility of her 2024 presidential bid loomed, abruptly quitting the board and publicly criticizing the idea of government aid. \u2026 She collected $256,322 in cash, stock and other compensation from the company in 2019, while receiving an additional $83,750 in 2020, Securities and Exchange Commission filings show.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
