In response to House Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson throwing his support behind Donald Trump\u2019s presidential campaign,\u00a0DNC spokesperson Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMAGA Mike Johnson sees in Trump another anti-abortion, election-denying extremist who will do everything in his power to pursue a radical, anti-freedom agenda if he\u2019s reelected president. Even though MAGA Mike once confessed that he thought Trump was \u201cdangerous\u201d and \u201cunfit\u201d to serve, he\u2019s so hellbent on legislating away Americans\u2019 freedoms and gutting Social Security and Medicare that he\u2019s willing to endorse Trump anyway. MAGA Mike is just the newest recruit to Trump\u2019s MAGA minions in Congress, who are hellbent on wasting hardworking Americans\u2019 tax dollars to operate an arm of Trump\u2019s presidential campaign out of the People\u2019s House instead of delivering on the issues Americans care about.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

MAGA Mike Johnson gave a full-throated endorsement of Donald Trump this morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cI’m all in for President Trump. I expect he’ll be our nominee \u2026 we have to make Biden a one-term president.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Trump has heaped nothing but praise on the new speaker because he wants to work with him to take away freedoms and pursue an extreme MAGA agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cJohnson won the gavel with the full support of the Republican conference Tuesday, including lawmakers closely aligned with Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cThe record suggests [Johnson] is no less partisan, particularly on issues of importance to Trump, like the 2020 election and Republicans\u2019 effort to impeach President Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Johnson\u2019s unwavering praise of Trump is at odds with his own assessment of the former president in 2015, when Johnson said Trump \u201clacks the character and the moral center\u201d to lead the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201cThe thing about Donald Trump is that he lacks the character and the moral center we desperately need again in the White House. \u2026 I am afraid he would break more things than he fixes. He is a hot head by nature, and that is a dangerous trait to have in a Commander in Chief. \u2026 I just don\u2019t think he has the demeanor to be President.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Johnson and Trump are both anti-abortion extremists who want to ban abortion nationwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. New York Times<\/a>: \u201cIn Congress, Mr. Johnson has voted for a national abortion ban and co-sponsored a 20-week abortion ban, earning him an A-plus rating from the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. After the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade in June last year, he celebrated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201c\ud83d\udea8\ud83d\udea8BREAKING: Late yesterday, the La. Department of Health informed abortion facilities in our state that the right to life has now been RESTORED!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jezebel<\/a>: \u201c[Johnson] expressed hope that Roe v. Wade would someday be overturned, railed against people supposedly \u2018using abortion as birth control\u2019 and appeared to blame school shootings on abortion: \u2018When you break up the nuclear family, when you tell a generation of people that life has no value, no meaning, that it\u2019s expendable, then you do wind up with school shooters.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Johnson was an \u201carchitect<\/a>\u201d of Trump\u2019s Big Lie \u2014 helping spread election conspiracy theories and leading the effort to overturn the 2020 election results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cJohnson, a former lawyer, led an amicus brief signed by over 100 Republican members of Congress backing a flawed Texas lawsuit that asked the Supreme Court to overturn the 2020 election. He also played a key role in crafting the rationale that many of his GOP colleagues used in justifying their votes to throw out the 2020 election results \u2015 even just hours after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cJohnson played one of the most significant roles of any member of Congress in the effort to overturn the election.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Johnson also shares Trump\u2019s extreme MAGA agenda on other key issues like Social Security and Medicare.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Donald Trump once backed raising the retirement age to 70 and called for privatizing Social Security which he called a \u2018Ponzi scheme\u2019 \u2013 two positions he has hammered Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for supporting as a former member of Congress and congressional candidate. \u2026 but a CNN KFile review found Trump himself also once praised Ryan on Medicare, along with the 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, without praising their specific policy proposal, which called for similar changes to Ryan\u2019s plan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
