In response to Donald Trump\u2019s latest call to terminate the Affordable Care Act, <\/em>DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen Donald Trump was in the White House, he tried and failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip away its health care coverage from more than 40 million Americans. Now, voters are watching as Trump and MAGA Republicans double down on his dangerous plan that could kick middle class families off their health care coverage and subject as many as 135 million Americans with preexisting conditions to discrimination from insurance companies \u2014 all to line the pockets of greedy health care executives. The GOP has made it clear that health care is on the line next November, and voters will once again turn out to reject the MAGA agenda and support President Biden\u2019s promise to make coverage affordable and accessible for all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump doubled down on his plan to \u201cterminate\u201d the Affordable Care Act, which is providing over 40 million hardworking Americans with health care who couldn\u2019t otherwise afford it. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also called it a \u2018low point for the Republican Party\u2019 that lawmakers failed to \u2018terminate\u2019 the health insurance program established by the Affordable Care Act. According to the latest figures this year, more than 40 million Americans rely on the program for those who can’t afford private plans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s plan to kill the Affordable Care Act would devastate the lives of millions of Americans who depend on it \u2014 and it\u2019s the latest out-of-touch proposal from Trump\u2019s 2024 campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jon Favreau<\/a>: \u201cIf Trump wins, 40 million people could lose their health care, and insurance companies would get to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. If Biden wins, that\u2026won\u2019t happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR\/PBS NewsHour\/Marist Poll<\/a>: Eight out of 10 U.S. adults say all Americans have a basic right to health care coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Trump takes power and repeals the Affordable Care Act, as many as <\/strong>135 million people<\/em><\/strong> with preexisting conditions could be discriminated against by insurance companies if their protections are ripped away from them. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for American Progress<\/a>: \u201cAccording to new estimates from the Center for American Progress, 135 million people under age 65, or about half of nonelderly people, have a preexisting condition that an insurer could use to discriminate against them if they ever sought coverage through the individual market in the absence of ACA protections.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Poll<\/a>: 72% believe it is \u201cvery important\u201d the ACA provision protecting preexisting conditions stay in place \u2013 including 62% of Republicans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has been hellbent on ending the Affordable Care Act for years, and when he was in office, he came within one vote in Congress of achieving his goal. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama’s signature health law.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump isn\u2019t the only 2024 Republican trying to rip away health care coverage from millions of Americans who rely on it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cAs a Republican serving in the U.S. House, [DeSantis<\/strong>] was part of a far-right caucus that voted against the first ACA repeal bill that leadership brought to the floor because, DeSantis and his allies said, it didn\u2019t undo enough of the law\u2019s protections for people with pre-existing conditions. GOP leaders eventually put forward a more aggressive repeal. DeSantis and his colleagues voted yes on that one, but it failed in the Senate.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cDespite the fact that millions of people had enrolled in Obamacare, the health law remains a \u2018failure on a whole number of levels\u2019 and should be repealed, Christie<\/strong> said. But, he added, Republicans must also offer a concrete replacement. The conversation, he said \u2018must start from a position of repeal.\u2019\u201d

Reuters<\/a>: \u201cGovernor Asa Hutchinson<\/strong> of Arkansas has signed legislation that will end by 2017 the state\u2019s innovative but controversial adaptation of the Affordable Care Act, which has provided nearly 190,000 residents with health coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HealthInsurance.org<\/a>: \u201cIn late 2017, Burgum<\/strong> and 19 other Republican governors wrote a letter to Congress, urging lawmakers to repeal the ACA.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s not forget that Trump\u2019s top minion MAGA Mike Johnson has attempted to deny access to affordable care from hardworking Americans for years <\/strong>and <\/em><\/strong>he voted against the Inflation Reduction Act, which is lowering the cost of prescription drugs and capping the cost of insulin for seniors on Medicare at $35 a month. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Press Release, Office of Congressman Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cU.S. Rep. Mike Johnson joined 11 other freshman members of Congress in a letter published Tuesday by Fox News urging the U.S. Senate to act on repealing the Affordable Care Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cAs chair of the conservative Republican Study Commission, he has backed health care proposals that the GOP has espoused for years, including a repeal of the Affordable Care Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
