In response to Vivek Ramaswamy last night calling for the Supreme Court to rip away access to medication abortion, <\/em>DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVivek Ramaswamy once again embraced Donald Trump\u2019s extreme, unpopular agenda last night by calling on Trump\u2019s Supreme Court majority to rip away freedoms from millions of American women by outlawing access to safe, effective abortion medication. Ramaswamy, Trump, and the rest of the MAGA extremists in the Republican primary are on a crusade to rip away freedom from women all across the country, and they have made clear that they will not stop until abortion is banned in every state in America. It\u2019s an extreme, cruel anti-abortion agenda that MAGA Republicans will pay for at the ballot box next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Vivek Ramaswamy said last night that the Supreme Court should rip away freedoms from millions of women across America by outlawing a key abortion pill.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cRamaswamy: Supreme Court should rule against FDA approval of abortion pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramaswamy<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s my opinion\u2026 that the FDA exceeded its statutory authority in using an emergency approval to approve something that doesn\u2019t fit Congress\u2019s criteria for what actually counts as an emergency approval.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramaswamy supports cruel abortion bans and said he is open to being convinced of the constitutionality of a national abortion ban. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Examiner<\/a>: \u201cEntrepreneur and author Vivek Ramaswamy came out in favor of an abortion ban \u2018around six weeks\u2019 of gestation at the state level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramaswamy<\/a> on whether he\u2019s \u201cof the same position\u201d as Ron DeSantis with Florida\u2019s six-week ban: \u201cI think that\u2019s a reasonable bill for him to have signed, absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a> on Iowa\u2019s six-week abortion ban: \u201cRamaswamy, who went to the Capitol building to support the session, faced hecklers during an interview. \u2018I think it\u2019s an historic occasion,\u2019 Ramaswamy said, adding that it was \u2018a celebration of the pro-life position that I share.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramaswamy<\/a>: \u201cI remain open minded to any constitutional scholar convincing me of the legal basis for the federal government, which I believe has no authority to codify Roe v. Wade<\/em> into law, to codify a federal abortion ban into law either. I remain open minded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Signal<\/a>: \u201cThe Daily Signal has learned that the presidential candidate is reportedly discussing with scholars whether federal protections for the unborn would be constitutional. \u2018He is open to the constitutional argument for a federal abortion ban,\u2019 campaign manager Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Signal on Thursday. Last week, Ramaswamy discussed abortion on the \u2018All-In Podcast\u2019 where he said that he believed Roe v. Wade to be unconstitutional and described himself as \u2018personally pro-life.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump appointed right-wing judges who have put access to mifepristone at risk for millions of women across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cIn an unprecedented move, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk on Friday suspended the Food and Drug Administration’s longtime approval of key abortion pill mifepristone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC<\/a>: \u201cKacsmaryk, appointed to the federal bench by former President Donald Trump in 2019, previously worked for the Christian conservative legal group First Liberty Institute and has espoused socially conservative views on LGBTQ rights and abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cA federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that mifepristone, one of two pills used in medication abortions, should not be prescribed past seven weeks of pregnancy or via telemedicine. \u2026 A three judge panel of the 5th Circuit heard arguments in the case in May. All three judges were appointed by Republicans. Two are Trump appointees, one was appointed by George W. Bush.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his time in office, Trump\u2019s administration sought to bar federally funded clinics from referring patients to abortion providers and appealed a pandemic-era court order that allowed women to take mifepristone without visiting a doctor in person.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC<\/a>: \u201cTrump administration asks Supreme Court to reinstate abortion pill restrictions judge has suspended due to coronavirus\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 19th News<\/a>: \u201cThe [Trump] administration is currently arguing that the Supreme Court<\/a> undo a lower court order that allowed people in the pandemic to take mifepristone \u2014 a drug used as part of medication abortions \u2014 from home, without visiting a doctor in person. Appealing such a ruling straight to the Supreme Court and bypassing the appeals process was uncommon prior to Trump\u2019s presidency, but has become a frequent strategy for the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cSupreme Court OKs White House Request To Limit Abortion Pill Access During Pandemic\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaiser Family Foundation<\/a>: \u201cOn March 4, 2019, the Trump Administration published new final regulations that restores Reagan-era restrictions regarding abortion and Title X. The primary goal of these regulations is to block the availability of federal funds to family planning providers, such as Planned Parenthood, that also offer abortion services with non-Title X funds and to prohibit sites that receive Title X funds from referring pregnant patients to other providers for abortion services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s allies are plotting to effectively ban medication abortion nationwide and shut down clinics in all 50 states if he gets a second term in the White House. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025<\/a>: \u201cFDA should \u2026 Reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs because the politicized approval process was illegal from the start. \u2026 Now that the Supreme Court has acknowledged that the Constitution contains no right to an abortion, the FDA is ethically and legally obliged to revisit and withdraw its initial approval, which was premised on pregnancy being an \u2018illness\u2019 and abortion being \u2018therapeutically\u2019 effective at treating this \u2018illness.\u2019 The FDA is statutorily charged with guaranteeing the safety and efficacy of drugs and therefore should withdraw this drug that is proven to be dangerous to women and by definition fatally unsafe for unborn children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe Heritage Foundation, which has proposed detailed policies for a potential GOP administration, argues that Comstock \u2018unambiguously prohibits mailing abortion drugs\u2019 and says the next administration should \u2018enforce federal law against providers and distributors of [abortion] pills.\u2019”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kimberly Leonard, Politico<\/a>: \u201c\u2018They’re not going to be offering that in the state of Florida,\u2019 DeSantis says of pharmacy chains like CVS, Walgreens, and Publix offering patients medication abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOX 4<\/a>: \u201cFlorida Department of Health warns pharmacists against sale of abortion pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2024 MAGA Republican presidential field has also cozied up with abortion extremists and anti-abortion groups like Alliance Defending Freedom, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, and Bob Vander Plaats, who are forcefully advocating for stripping away access to mifepristone. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cThe leader of a major anti-abortion group met with former President Donald Trump<\/strong> on the issue, just weeks after raising questions about his commitment to restricting access to the procedure. Calling her meeting Monday with Trump \u2018terrific,\u2019 Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America group \u2026 told The Associated Press on Tuesday that she has been meeting with a number of declared and potential 2024 Republican presidential candidates and that it\u2019s her job to work with them on abortion-related issues.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America told Axios on Friday that in the wake of the Supreme Court\u2019s decision overturning Roe v. Wade, her group will work to restrict abortion \u2018in every state and in every legislature, including the Congress.\u2019 \u2026 Dannenfelser said she\u2019s working with governors and state legislatures in dozens of states. As we spoke, she said she was getting a call from former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie<\/strong>, who has been working with her to coordinate efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cHaley<\/strong> is set to deliver a speech on abortion Tuesday at the headquarters of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America in Northern Virginia, aiming to put her stamp on the issue as an unapologetic antiabortion voice who can nonetheless win back moderate voters who were alienated by other Republican candidates in the 2022 midterm elections. Her speech comes as Republican-led states have moved to restrict abortion access and the courts battle over access to a drug for medication-induced abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBS News<\/a>: \u201cBob Vander Plaats, an influential evangelical leader in Iowa, endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/strong> on Tuesday, giving his campaign a boost as he goes all in to try to win the first state in the presidential primary cycle. \u2026 \u2018The sanctity of life is not something to be nuanced. It’s not something to be poll-tested, it’s not a thing where the heartbeat bill is \u201ctoo harsh\u201d of a thing to be passed in the state of Iowa or the state of Florida,\u2019 Vander Plaats said last Saturday at a gala put on by the Pulse Live Advocates group, the longest standing anti-abortion rights group in the Hawkeye State.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Magazine<\/a>: \u201cIf you want just a little taste of where the conservative movement is headed, look at the Alliance Defending Freedom\u2014a right-wing legal organization that has spearheaded the fight against abortion rights. The ADF is the group that overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em>, and ended the era of legal abortion in the United States. \u2026 They are currently trying to get the Supreme Court to overturn the FDA\u2019s approval of mifepristone, a drug that has been on the market for decades and is safer than aspirin, because, they say, it\u2019s dangerous\u2014when in reality, they oppose it because mifepristone is an abortion drug.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cA conservative legal organization worked with the Trump<\/strong> administration to make it easier for states to defund Planned Parenthood \u2026 HHS last month told states they no longer have to comply with Obama administration policy that made it difficult for states to exclude the women\u2019s health group from their Medicaid programs \u2014 an announcement timed to the March of Life anti-abortion rally. HHS received a draft legal analysis from the conservative Alliance Defending Freedom a week before the announcement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
