Scalise\u2019s top priority has always been pushing Trump\u2019s unpopular agenda: He voted against certifying the 2020 election, is hellbent on banning abortion nationwide, and worked with Trump to try to rip away Americans\u2019 health care. Scalise\u2019s endorsement is the latest proof that while the House GOP is unable to accomplish anything on behalf of the American people, they are laser-focused on advancing Trump\u2019s MAGA agenda and ripping away freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scalise is a notorious election denier who did Trump\u2019s bidding by refusing to vote to certify the 2020 election results and downplaying Trump\u2019s role in the January 6 insurrection.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-donald-trump-joe-biden-business-health-c1645564f5ced76356e8423b5e12f103\">Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cThe House\u2019s second-ranking Republican, Rep. Steve Scalise, repeatedly refused to say on Sunday that the 2020 election wasn\u2019t stolen, standing by Donald Trump\u2019s lie that Democrat Joe Biden won the White House because of mass voter fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/12\/politics\/facts-first-scalise-stolen-election-lie\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cAsked three times by Fox News host Chris Wallace whether the election was \u2018stolen,\u2019 Scalise refused each time to offer the only correct answer: no. Instead, Scalise danced around a direct answer \u2013 claiming that states had not followed their own laws in conducting the pandemic-era election. \u2018What I said is there are states that didn\u2019t follow their legislatively set rules,\u2019 Scalise said when Wallace pressed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/11\/steve-scalises-election-rhetoric-is-no-less-harmful-than-trumps\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cSteve Scalise\u2019s election rhetoric is no less harmful than Trump\u2019s\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/12\/politics\/facts-first-scalise-stolen-election-lie\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cOn January 6, Scalise made the same argument about improper state procedures to explain why he was voting against the certification of some of Biden\u2019s electoral votes. The same argument was the basis for the infamous Texas-led lawsuit, which Scalise supported, that sought to get the election overturned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2022\/oct\/18\/republican-steve-scalise-capitol-attack-jan-6\">The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cThe second-highest ranking Republican in the US House, Steve Scalise, is facing criticism for questioning what Democrats did to halt the deadly January 6 Capitol attack on the day of the riots despite being shown on video standing beside chamber speaker Nancy Pelosi as she called for back-up from national guard troops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scalise is a longtime champion of Trump\u2019s efforts to restrict access to abortion and rip away freedoms from women across the country.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SteveScalise\/status\/1151296619679309825?s=20\">Scalise<\/a> on Trump administration announcing abortion restrictions: \u201cAnother big #ProLife win thanks to @realDonaldTrump\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/04\/18\/gop-thune-scalise-supreme-court-abortion-pills\">Axios<\/a>: \u201cNearly 150 Republican lawmakers on Tuesday urged the Supreme Court to allow lower court rulings imposing restrictions on a widely used abortion pill to take effect. Why it matters: Lawmakers who signed on to the brief that was filed to the court include some within Republican leadership, such as Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/20\/us\/politics\/abortion-republicans-roe-v-wade.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Boy, did we get a huge victory just a few months ago when <em>Roe<\/em> was overturned, but as you all know, that\u2019s only the end of the first phase of this battle,\u2019 Mr. Scalise told the crowd, highlighting the package of abortion bills already passed by the new Republican majority in the House. Trump and his advisers have discussed deeper cuts to both individual and corporate tax rates that would build on his controversial 2017 tax law \u2026 Trump\u2019s advisers, though, have discussed proposals to make deeper cuts to the overall corporate tax rate, potentially to as low as 15 percent, or to use the revenue from the proposed tariffs to pay a dividend to U.S. households. Further cutting corporate taxes \u2026 would primarily benefit large firms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scalise fought side by side with Trump to try to repeal the Affordable Care Act and jeopardize the health care coverage of millions of Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SteveScalise\/status\/843142066918055936?s=20\">Scalise<\/a> on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act: \u201cI\u2019m proud to work closely with my colleagues and President Trump to pass this important legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epi.org\/aca-obamacare-repeal-impact\/\">Economic Policy Institute<\/a>: \u201cAcross the country, 29.8 million people would lose their health insurance if the Affordable Care Act were repealed\u2014more than doubling the number of people without health insurance. And 1.2 million jobs would be lost\u2014not just in health care but across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/4376743-trump-vows-to-replace-obamacare-with-his-own-alternative\/\">The Hill<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Trump vowed Monday to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with his own \u2018much better\u2019 alternative program, reviving his push to slash the now-popular health care option used by millions of Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scalise wants to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them \u2014 essential programs America\u2019s seniors rely on.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/article\/10\/12\/2023\/steve-scalise-and-jim-jordan-share-a-major-resume-line-and-democrats-plan-to-pounce-on-it\">Semafor<\/a>: \u201cIn 2014, for instance, Scalise released a proposal to raise the eligibility age for Social Security and Medicare to 70, among other cost-cutting measures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/josephzeballos\/status\/1712225037132922995?s=46&amp;t=xm-twpB0gxygAStckNc2bA\">Joseph Zeballos-Roig, Semafor<\/a>: \u201c@RepArrington tells me Scalise favors setting up bipartisan commission probing the national debt, including putting Social Security\/Medicare on the table: \u2018He supports it, I can say that with confidence\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.semafor.com\/article\/10\/12\/2023\/steve-scalise-and-jim-jordan-share-a-major-resume-line-and-democrats-plan-to-pounce-on-it\">Semafor<\/a>: \u201cOn Wednesday, Republicans narrowly nominated their current majority leader, Rep. Steve Scalise, for the speaker\u2019s chair over right-wing favorite Rep. Jim Jordan. Both lawmakers previously led the RSC one after the other \u2014 Jordan from 2011 to 2013, and Scalise from 2013 to 2014. These days, the RSC is best known around Washington as a GOP policy shop responsible for crafting proposals to balance the federal budget, often through changes and cuts to Social Security and Medicare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/27\/politics\/trump-desantis-social-security-ponzi-scheme\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Donald Trump once backed raising the retirement age to 70 and called for privatizing Social Security which he called a \u2018Ponzi scheme\u2019 \u2013 two positions he has hammered Florida Gov.
