In response to House Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer\u2019s endorsement of Donald Trump,<\/em> DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u201cThe House Republican chaos conference accomplished nothing for the American people in their first year, except for the only American they care about: Donald Trump. Now, with the endorsement of far-right extremist Tom Emmer, every single member of House GOP leadership has officially endorsed Trump\u2019s 2024 run. Emmer is the latest MAGA minion to throw his support behind Trump\u2019s extreme agenda of threatening our democratic institutions, banning abortion nationwide, endangering access to health care, and slashing essential programs hardworking Americans rely on. MAGA House Republicans continue to fall in line behind Trump and use their majority to do his bidding \u2013 but they\u2019ll face the consequences for their deeply unpopular extremism at the ballot box in November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer\u2019s endorsement confirms that all of the leaders of the House Republican chaos conference are supporting Trump\u2019s campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liz Brown-Kaiser, CNN<\/a>: \u201cAll members of House Republican leadership are now backing Donald Trump for president.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake Sherman, Punchbowl News<\/a>: \u201cOne day after @SteveScalise endorsed Trump, @GOPMajorityWhip backs a man who sunk his chance to be speaker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer and Trump both share extreme anti-abortion records that include supporting a national abortion ban.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022<\/a>: Emmer co-sponsored a national abortion ban that would have banned most abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2022<\/a>: Emmer co-sponsored another national abortion ban that would have criminalized<\/a> doctors for providing abortions. Emmer co-sponsored similar bills in 2021<\/a>, 2019<\/a>, 2017<\/a>, and 2015<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer<\/a>: \u201cAbortions should always be illegal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade<\/em>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI’m the one that got rid of Roe v. Wade<\/em>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer and Trump both want to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would endanger health care coverage for 40 million Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lourdes Garcia-Navarro<\/a>: \u201cAre you willing, though, to repeal it without a replacement, leaving millions of people potentially uninsured?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer: \u201cWe’re going to repeal this failed law, this misguided law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer<\/a>: \u201cGlad [Trump] is committed to unwinding the disastrous Obamacare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MinnPost<\/a>: \u201c\u2018In the first hundred days, the Affordable Care Act is going to be dealt with,\u2019 Emmer said. He did not say definitively whether he endorsed the plan Senate leaders have discussed, which would repeal and replace the law on a three-year timeline, or if he wanted everything done sooner. He did say \u2018the policy will take a little bit longer, but Obamacare as it exists is done. It will not exist after February.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2017<\/a>: Emmer voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economic Policy Institute<\/a>: \u201cAcross the country, 29.8 million people would lose their health insurance if the Affordable Care Act were repealed\u2014more than doubling the number of people without health insurance. And 1.2 million jobs would be lost\u2014not just in health care but across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Trump vowed Monday to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with his own \u2018much better\u2019 alternative program, reviving his push to slash the now-popular health care option used by millions of Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like Trump, Emmer has repeatedly supported plans to end Social Security and Medicare as we know them \u2013 Emmer even said last year that \u201ceverything\u201d was on the table for cuts, including these essential programs that America\u2019s seniors rely on. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer<\/a>: \u201cEverything’s on the table in terms of scrutinizing what we’re spending on, why we’re spending it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cIn June, the Republican Study Committee [with Emmer] \u2026 released a budget plan that included numerous suggested reforms for Medicare and Social Security, including raising the eligibility ages for each program to 67 and 70, respectively. The proposal further called for withholding payments for individuals who retire early or had a certain level of income, and also suggested using private funding sources for Social Security to lower income taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2015<\/a>: Emmer voted to raise<\/a> the retirement age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Donald Trump once backed raising the retirement age to 70 and called for privatizing Social Security which he called a \u2018Ponzi scheme\u2019 \u2013 two positions he has hammered Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for supporting as a former member of Congress and congressional candidate. \u2026 but a CNN KFile review found Trump himself also once praised Ryan on Medicare, along with the 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, without praising their specific policy proposal, which called for similar changes to Ryan\u2019s plan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emmer supported attempts to invalidate the results of the 2020 election and refused to denounce Trump and MAGA Republicans\u2019 election conspiracies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Star Tribune<\/a>: \u201cRep. Tom Emmer backs bid to get U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Biden’s win\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn all, 106 House Republicans signed onto an amicus brief in support of a suit filed last week by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. It attempts to invalidate President-elect Joe Biden’s 62 Electoral College votes in four swing states. Emmer was the only Minnesota Republican to sign on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLike many prominent Republicans, Emmer and his three Republican colleagues in the Minnesota delegation have refused to acknowledge President Donald Trump’s loss, nor have they disputed his barrage of unproven voter fraud claims. After failing in dozens of court challenges nationwide, Trump is trying to join the Supreme Court case. Paxton’s suit repeats disproved and unsupported allegations about mail ballots and voting in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201c[Emmer] stopped short of saying Trump and Republicans should stop pushing false claims that Trump won the election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fox News<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s statement comes as he continues to make unfounded claims that his 2020 election loss to now-President Biden was due to a \u2018rigged\u2019 election rampant with \u2018massive voter fraud,\u2019 and who\u2019s pushing partisan election audits in states across the country. Asked about Trump\u2019s comments, Emmer answered that \u2018the former president, he\u2019s a private citizen.. he of course, is entitled to his own opinion.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
