In case you missed it: Donald Trump (the same one with the worst jobs records since Herbert Hoover) tried to take credit for a strong economy under President Biden; Wisconsin Republicans got closer to passing an abortion ban thanks to Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>; the Republican National Committee had its worst fundraising haul in decades; RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel encouraged Republicans to go big on their cruel plans to rip away women\u2019s freedoms; MAGA Mike Johnson refused to condemn pro-slavery extremists; James Comer\u2019s impeachment sham flopped yet again; and Maria Elvira Salazar became the latest House Republican to take credit for federal infrastructure funding that she voted against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Defying logic, Donald Trump embarrassingly tried to take credit for the success of President Biden\u2019s economy despite predicting that the stock market would crash under a Biden presidency (something he is also actively cheering for).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4435862-trump-claims-credit-record-stock-market-biden\/\">The Hill<\/a>: \u201cTrump claims credit for record-high stock market under Biden\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/111840568643216314\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cTHIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1752049980963987589\/video\/1\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cIf Biden wins, you\u2019re going to have a stock market collapse the likes of which you\u2019ve never had. You will have a collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2024\/01\/28\/global-economy-gdp-inflation\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cFalling inflation, rising growth give U.S. the world\u2019s best recovery\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince 2020, the United States has powered through a once-in-a-century pandemic, the highest inflation in 40 years and fallout from two foreign wars. Now, after posting faster annual growth last year than in 2022, the U.S. economy is quashing fears of a recession while offering lessons for future crisis-fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn Friday, President Biden hailed fresh government data showing that annual inflation over the second half of 2023 fell back to the Federal Reserve\u2019s 2 percent target. Wade<\/em><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Republican National Committee is Ronna-ing out of money.<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/the-reidout\/reidout-blog\/rnc-chair-ronna-mcdaniel-failures-rcna136442\">MSNBC<\/a>: \u201cMAGA Republicans rage at Ronna McDaniel over RNC failures\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInfighting and funding woes are causing chaos in the Republican National Committee.\u201d<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/02\/01\/biden-allied-groups-140-million-combined-war-chest-dwarfs-republican-rivals.html\">CNBC<\/a>: \u201cBiden, allied groups $140 million campaign war chest dwarfs Republican rivals\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u201cA coalition made up of President Joe Biden\u2019s reelection campaign, the Democratic National Committee, the president\u2019s joint fundraising committees and his allied super PAC began the year with far more cash in the bank than any of his potential Republican opponents, new Federal Election Commission filings show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/biden-beats-trump-takeaways-2024-campaign-money-rcna136497\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cBy comparison, Biden&#8217;s campaign ended the year with $46 million in cash, far more than the $33 million Trump&#8217;s campaign held before the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. Future Forward, the main super PAC backing Biden, held a little bit more in the bank than MAGA Inc., $24 million to $23.3 million, at the end of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said that Republican candidates need to talk more about their extreme and incredibly unpopular abortion bans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1752037941839380865\">McDaniel<\/a>: \u201cOne of the things the RNC has been leading on \u2026 we\u2019ve been giving guidance to candidates to get out in front of it, talk about [abortion]. We put a memo out before the election, Kellyanne Conway and I were calling candidates saying, \u2018Please don\u2019t ignore this issue.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwiw.news\/p\/trump-runs-anti-abortion-ads-on-facebook\">FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DNCWarRoom\/status\/1656474276063592448?s=20\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cGetting rid of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, to negotiate with. \u2026 And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> &#8230; For fifty years, this has been going on. \u2026 I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.\u201d<br><br><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1749107630738489348?s=20\">Margaret Brennan<\/a>: \u201cWould you [sign a national abortion ban]?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Haley: \u201cI&#8217;ve said I&#8217;m fine with a federal law.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/17\/us\/politics\/nikki-haley-abortion-six-weeks.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201cNikki Haley Says She Would Have Signed Six-Week Abortion Ban as Governor\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAGA Mike Johnson has worked with and refused to condemn an extremist activist who has argued for and justified slavery.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/the-profound-influence-of-christian-extremists-on-mike-johnson?utm_campaign=owned_social&amp;via=twitter_page&amp;utm_medium=socialflow&amp;utm_source=twitter_owned_tdb\">Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cThe Daily Beast requested comment from Johnson\u2019s office about the speaker\u2019s ties to far-right Christian leaders and traditions. The comment request specifically asked whether Johnson thought biblically sanctioned violence conflicted with his duties as an officer of the constitution, whether he denounced the teachings of hardline fundamentalists who have endorsed biblical slavery and rejected constitutional provisions like liberty and justice, and whether he personally believed the Bible permitted slavery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA spokesperson for the speaker provided a statement that didn\u2019t answer any of those questions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u201cIn 2019, Johnson delivered a keynote speech to the Council for National Policy, an elite and secretive pro-Christian group that wields immense influence in conservative politics. That group was co-founded by Gary North, an influential Christian dominionist who has endorsed biblical slavery.\u201d<br><br>\u201cRushdoony and North have also made arguments justifying, even endorsing, biblical slavery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Another one of James Comer\u2019s \u201cwhistleblowers\u201d testified that President Biden had done nothing wrong, cementing Comer\u2019s impeachment inquiry into Biden as nothing more than a sham to help Trump\u2019s campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br><\/strong><strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/rachel-maddow-show\/maddowblog\/james-comers-latest-anti-biden-flop-adds-republicans-troubles-rcna136548\">MSNBC<\/a>: \u201cJames Comer\u2019s latest anti-Biden flop adds to Republican\u2019s troubles\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA man House Republicans had previously claimed was a whistleblower on Joe Biden\u2019s corruption categorically debunked all of the GOP\u2019s accusations in a closed-door hearing on Tuesday. Eric Schwerin, a longtime business partner of Hunter Biden, testified in front of the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees in a closed-door interview.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI spoke to a source with direct knowledge of Schwerin\u2019s transcribed interview who confirmed that the witness said President Biden was not involved in, did not profit from, and took no official actions in relation to his family\u2019s business dealings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndeed, just days before Schwerin failed to tell Comer what he hoped to hear, Rob Walker sat down for a deposition and also made clear that GOP conspiracy theories are wrong. Before that, it was Mervyn Yan who disappointed Republican investigators with answers that undercut their partisan goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s just from the last week. Before Schwerin, Walker, and Yan, the list of witnesses includes Georges Berges, Carol Cox, Kevin Morris, and of course, Devon Archer. What do they all have in common? They were brought in to answer Republicans\u2019 questions about the Bidens, and they provided testimony \u2014 under oath \u2014 that left little doubt that the GOP\u2019s crusade is without a factual foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe result is an investigation that even other Republicans have described as \u2018clueless,\u2019 a \u2018disaster,\u2019 and a \u2018parade of embarrassments.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis week, that parade grew a little longer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Republicans still can\u2019t help themselves from taking credit for President Biden\u2019s historic legislation that\u2019s helping lead an American manufacturing boom.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/justin_chermol\/status\/1751670329393414229?s=20\">@justin_chermol<\/a>: \u201cWATCH: Rep. @MaElviraSalazar continues to take credit for projects brought to #FL27 made possible by bipartisan legislation she voted against like the CHIPS &amp; Science Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen pressed by @CBSMiami, Salazar says she forgot how she voted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/178540\/maria-salazar-tries-take-credit-bills-voted-against\">New Republic<\/a>: \u201cIn an interview on CBS News Miami, Salazar aggressively skirted direct questions about her voting record on the CHIPS and Science Act and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, at one point telling the host that she needed to speak to her staff to remind her of her voting record in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018The money that you talk about\u2014the $40 million that you bring back to the district\u2014sometimes that money comes from bills that you voted against,\u2019 pressed CBS News\u2019s Jim DeFede. \u2018You voted against the CHIPS Act and yet you praise the fact that the south Florida climate resilience tech hub is going to be started in Miami, right? You voted against the infrastructure bill and you talk about all the money that comes back to the airport.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018So, at the same time that you\u2019re taking credit for the money that you bring back to the district in Washington, you\u2019re voting against these projects on party line votes,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Listen I, that was, I think, last cycle, I cannot really remember right now, but just look, just look at the Americas Act,\u2019 Salazar started before DeFede cut her off, asking why she doesn\u2019t want to explain her vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I mean right now, and I\u2019m not trying to be a politician, there\u2019s so many bills that I\u2019ve introduced and I know that many of them\u2014,\u2019 Salazar continued while DeFede interjected again that she had voted against the bills.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAGA Republicans stooped to new lows this week with their extremism, hypocrisy, chaos, and \u2014 as President Biden would call it \u2014 malarkey.
