Donald Trump said it himself: Without him, none of the extreme abortion bans being pushed by MAGA Republicans across the country would be possible. With Trump now closing in on the Republican nomination, we\u2019re reminding voters of the severe consequences of his anti-choice extremism and what is at stake for women across America in this election, state by state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As MAGA Republicans in Georgia and across the country try to rip away women\u2019s freedoms as a result of Donald Trump\u2019s actions to overturn Roe v. Wade, <\/em>DNC National Press Secretary Sarafina Chitika released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause of Donald Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade<\/em>, Georgia Republicans have banned abortion before many women know they\u2019re pregnant and introduced a bill threatening to throw women in jail for exercising their right to choose. This horrifying reality for women is what Trump wanted \u2014 he said women should be punished for choosing to have an abortion and paved the way for Roe <\/em>to be reversed. As Trump continues to demand credit for extreme abortion bans like the one in Georgia, President Biden and Vice President Harris are running to protect women\u2019s freedoms from Republicans trying to strip them away \u2014 and the stakes of this election couldn\u2019t be higher.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Republicans have banned abortion before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant, introduced a bill that threatens women with jail time, and want to remove exceptions for rape, incest, and health of the mother.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia State Supreme Court upholds six-week abortion ban\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia\u2019s six-week abortion ban will remain in place after the state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the law is valid \u2014 a move that leaves abortion largely inaccessible in the South. \u2026 The law was among the strictest in the nation when it was signed by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in 2019.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia Recorder<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia now forbids most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, earlier than many women even think to buy a pregnancy test. <\/strong>When the measure passed in 2019, Georgia Republicans boasted it was the strictest law in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Republic<\/a>: \u201cGeorgia Republicans Want to Charge People Who Get Abortions With Homicide\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeorgia Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill that would classify abortion as a homicide, despite their own constituents\u2019 widespread opposition to banning the procedure. The bill, introduced Thursday, would classify a human as an \u2018unborn child at every stage of development from fertilization until birth.\u2019 As a result, terminating a pregnancy could be considered and prosecuted as a homicide. \u2026 people who use IUDs or emergency contraception\u2014both of which prevent fertilized eggs from implanting\u2014could be charged with murder.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia State Rep. Charlice Byrd<\/a>: \u201cWe have those exceptions right now, the three, but I want to eliminate those three.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump is demanding credit for the extreme abortion bans that MAGA Republicans have passed around the country and said he is \u201cproud\u201d of his efforts to overturn <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><\/a> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI’m the one that got rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, and everybody said that was an impossible thing to do. I put on three Supreme Court justices. Very few people have had that privilege or honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cGetting rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> was an incredible thing<\/strong> for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade<\/em>, to negotiate with. \u2026 And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade<\/em> … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump supports a national abortion ban and has a yearslong extreme anti-abortion record. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThere of course remains a vital role for the federal government in protecting unborn life. And it\u2019s very important.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. <\/strong>\u2026 It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikki Haley said she would sign any nationwide abortion ban that landed on her desk and has pledged her support for extreme abortion bans before many women know they\u2019re pregnant. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirsten Welker<\/a>: \u201cWould you support a 15-week federal limit?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley: \u201cI would support anything that would pass.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haley<\/a>: \u201cWhatever we can get 60 Senate votes on, isn\u2019t that better than what we have now? And if it\u2019s\u2013 if it\u2019s six weeks, that\u2019s great. If it\u2019s 15 weeks, that\u2019s great.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
