In response to House Republicans playing political games tonight instead of working to pass bipartisan border security legislation, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHouse Republicans are failing the American people by pursuing baseless political stunts to do the bidding of Donald Trump instead of supporting a bipartisan deal to secure the border. By openly putting politics ahead of border security, MAGA Mike Johnson and his House GOP chaos conference are once again putting Trump\u2019s political ambitions first \u2013 and the American people last.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Republicans baselessly impeached Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas \u2013 showing once again they are just another arm of Donald Trump\u2019s campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cAs Republicans accuse Mayorkas of grossly mishandling the border, Johnson is actively refusing to consider the Senate\u2019s bipartisan deal to ramp up border security.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAGA Mike Johnson previously railed against \u201csingle-party impeachment\u201d \u2013 before pushing a sham impeachment on Secretary Mayorkas to appease his far-right base. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cThe founders of this country warned us against a single-party impeachment for good reason. They feared that it would bitterly and perhaps irreparably divide our nation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker Mike Johnson<\/a>: \u201cI hope and pray that future Congresses can and will exercise greater restraint.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Republicans are more focused on their childish infighting and impeachment shams than securing the border.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cThe border compromise would represent a dramatic change of immigration law on lines many Republicans have long supported. \u2026 The Mayorkas impeachment effort\u2026 will have zero practical impact on the crisis at the southern border.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump, who is hoping to make immigration a key plank of his presidential campaign, has suggested on Truth Social that approving additional resources for the border would make Republicans \u2018look bad.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vox<\/a>: \u201cTrump made this clear when he reportedly urged Republicans in Congress to turn against the bipartisan Senate border security bill scheduled for a vote Wednesday so that he could keep the issue alive through the presidential election.<\/strong> His supporters have largely fallen in line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson rejected the bipartisan border security legislation despite repeatedly calling for action to secure the border and saying it \u201cis a job for Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201cOur immigration system is broken. Reforming that system is a job for Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201cThe crisis at our southern border has deteriorated to such an extent that significant action can wait no longer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201cWe must insist \u2014 must insist \u2014 that the border be the top priority.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johnson<\/a>: \u201cI do think it\u2019s past time to secure the border.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik said the top priority for House Republicans was securing the border.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefanik<\/a>: \u201cOur top priority is securing the southern border.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefanik<\/a>: \u201cThe reality is the House Republicans are going to stand up for border security on behalf of the American people,<\/strong> because we know that is the top concern among Americans, not just Republicans, but Independents and Democrat voters as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefanik<\/a>: \u201cI know that the Speaker\u2019s top priority is securing the border.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guardian<\/a>: \u201c\u2018We don\u2019t support shutting down the government,\u2019 Stefanik said. \u2018But we must secure the border.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple House Republicans have warned their own colleagues against politicizing border security and delaying taking action.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Emmer<\/a>: \u201cWhy does it have to be a political issue when it’s the right thing to do to seal our own border and make sure that good people that want to come here for the right reasons are able to come here?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chip Roy<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s time to act with urgency. Urgency means not waiting for the next election.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael McCaul<\/a>: \u201cI think [the border] is a very urgent problem. We can\u2019t wait a year.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
