Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been showing his true colors to Black communities for years \u2014 from calling for the return of \u2018stop and frisk\u2019 and encouraging violence toward those fighting for racial justice to offensively claiming that Black voters will support him because of his criminal indictments. The contrast couldn\u2019t be clearer: President Biden and Vice President Harris are the only candidates on the ballot this November who are investing in stronger, safer communities for Black Americans.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>President Biden and Vice President Harris are addressing the epidemic of gun violence in Black communities, including signing into law the most significant gun violence reduction legislation enacted in nearly 30 years and launching the first-ever Office of Gun Violence Prevention. President Biden has taken more executive action on gun violence than any other president in history.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/12\/13\/white-house-gun-violence-00131473\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe initiative outlines steps states should take to combat gun violence, and the White House will work with officials to provide necessary resources for implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe administration is encouraging state officials to establish their own state-level gun violence prevention offices; <strong>to invest in gun violence prevention, such as community violence intervention programs;<\/strong> to bolster support for survivors and victims affected by gun violence; to push for safe storage and reporting of lost and stole firearms; and to enact legislation to<strong> strengthen background<\/strong> <strong>checks<\/strong> and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Biden-Harris administration is investing $6.5 billion in American Rescue Act funding to support local and state leaders in shoring up their budgets and investing in public safety.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/biden-to-say-cities-can-use-covid-19-aid-to-hire-more-police-officers-11624438800\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>: \u201cMr. Biden emphasized that state and local officials in areas experiencing surges in gun violence can use $350 billion in Covid-19 relief funding to hire more law-enforcement personnel, even if it raises the total number beyond its pre-pandemic level.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2022\/05\/13\/fact-sheet-president-biden-issues-call-for-state-and-local-leaders-to-dedicate-more-american-rescue-plan-funding-to-make-our-communities-safer-and-deploy-these-dollars-quickly\/#:~:text=Today%2C%20President%20Biden%20is%20announcing,have%20answered%20the%20President's%20call.\">White House Fact Sheet<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cOver $2 billion to prevent crime and ease the burden on police, including <strong>community violence interventions, crisis responders, and substance use disorder and mental health services.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c$1.2 billion Medicaid Mobile Crisis Intervention Services \u2013 police departments are too often overburdened due to lack of crisis response support for people experiencing behavioral health crises. That\u2019s why the American Rescue Plan <strong>included $1.2 billion to fund mobile crisis intervention units staffed with mental health professionals and trained peers.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c$1 billion in bonuses for front-line public safety workers to help recruit and retain these public servants.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c$1 billion Family Violence Prevention and Services Program to reduce domestic violence with immediate crisis intervention, health supports, and safety.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cOver $350 million in job training and other assistance to <strong>help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully reenter society and provide at-risk teens and young adults with meaningful job opportunities <\/strong>in the summer and during the year.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>President Biden signed a historic executive order to enhance public trust in law enforcement, which requires federal law enforcement officers to wear body cameras and restricts the use of chokeholds, no-knock warrants, and other important provisions.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/biden-signs-law-enforcement-reform-bill-into-law-with-george-floyds-family-present\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cPresident Biden Signs Executive Order On Federal Policing 2 Years After George Floyd&#8217;s Killing\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>\u201cThe directive bans the use of chokeholds, restricts no knock warrants, requires tracking of use of force data, and mandates anti-bias training and body-worn camera, among other provisions.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe executive order also instructs establishment of a national database tracking federal officer misconduct that allows local and state agencies to enter their records, too, and directs the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create best practices to promote wellness of officers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>President Biden is calling on Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to advance accountability, transparency, and public trust in law enforcement.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/george-floyds-50th-birthday-joe-biden-congress-police-reform\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cOn George Floyd&#8217;s 50th birthday, <strong>Joe Biden calls for Congress to pass \u2018meaningful\u2019 police reform\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/02\/07\/fact-sheet-the-biden-harris-administrations-work-to-make-our-communities-safer-and-advance-effective-accountable-policing\/#:~:text=The%20President%20will%20again%20call,Standard%20of%20Effectiveness%20and%20Accountability.\">White House Fact Sheet<\/a>: \u201cRe-issuing the Call for Congress to Pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. The President will <strong>again call for Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act <\/strong>to advance accountability, transparency, and public trust in law enforcement. <strong>Real change at the state and local level requires Congressional action.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In contrast, Donald Trump urged Congress to block the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/republicans-never-going-support-george-floyd-justice-policing-act-rcna2215\">MSNBC<\/a>: <strong>\u201cRepublicans were never going to support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act\u201d<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cThen-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called Scott\u2019s bill an \u2018irrevocably flawed\u2019 approach to police reform. At the same time, then-President Donald Trump accused Democrats of wanting to \u2018take away a lot of the strength from our police and from law enforcement generally,\u2019 including police \u2018immunity.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trump has made it clear that he has no desire to combat racial injustice, and has repeatedly doubled down on supporting police brutality.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-nation\/wp\/2017\/07\/29\/u-s-police-chiefs-blast-trump-for-endorsing-police-brutality\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: <strong>\u201cU.S. police chiefs blast Trump for endorsing \u2018police brutality\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPolice leaders across the country moved quickly to distance themselves from \u2014 or to outright condemn \u2014 President Trump\u2019s statements about<strong> \u2018roughing up\u2019 people who\u2019ve been arrested.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/ag-sessions-says-trump-administration-pull-back-police-department-civil-n726826\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump&#8217;s attorney general said Tuesday the Justice Department will <strong>limit its use of<\/strong> a tactic employed aggressively under President Obama \u2014 <strong>suing police departments for violating the civil rights of minorities.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/07\/01\/trump-black-lives-matter-347051\">Politico<\/a>: <strong>\u201cTrump: Black Lives Matter is a \u2018symbol of hate\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Donald Trump on Wednesday called New York City\u2019s decision to paint \u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 on Fifth Avenue a \u2018symbol of hate,\u2019 rebuking his home town\u2019s embrace of a rallying cry that has stirred nationwide protests against racism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trump wants to force local police departments to reimplement harmful, racially-charged policies, such as \u201cstop and frisk,\u201d to access federal funding.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/news\/b95289b6-0fb3-4404-808c-2e91c09e7bce\">Press Release, Donald J. Trump for President<\/a>: \u201cSecond, to qualify for this new funding and all other Justice Department grants, I will insist that local jurisdictions return to proven common sense policing measures, such as stop and frisk\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/trump-calls-bloomberg-total-racist-over-policy-president-has-supported-n1135116\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump calls Bloomberg a &#8216;total racist&#8217; over stop and frisk, which the president has supported\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In case you forgot, Trump has a long history as the poster boy for modern racism, and he has repeatedly embraced white supremacists.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/06\/18\/nyregion\/central-park-five-trump.html\">New York Times<\/a>: <strong>\u201cTrump Will Not Apologize for Calling for Death Penalty Over Central Park Five\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump said on Tuesday that he would not apologize for his harsh comments in 1989 about the Central Park Five, the five black and Latino men who as teenagers were wrongly convicted of the brutal rape of a jogger in New York City.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/tommybeer\/2021\/01\/06\/trump-called-blm-protesters-thugs-but-capitol-storming-supporters-very-special\/?sh=52055d7f3465\">Forbes<\/a>: \u201c<strong>Trump Called BLM Protesters \u2018Thugs\u2019 But Capitol-Storming Supporters \u2018Very Special\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarlier this year, Trump appeared to threaten violence against protesters (whom <strong>Trump, again, called \u2018THUGS\u2019<\/strong>) in Minneapolis following the death of Geroge Floyd, tweeting, <strong>\u2018when the looting starts, the shooting starts\u2019<\/strong> and denouncing the destruction of property as \u2018domestic acts of terror.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-black-americans-killed-police-so-are-white-people\/\">CBS News<\/a>: \u201cMr. Trump&#8217;s critics have accused him of <strong>overtly appealing to white supremacists through his continued defense of the Confederate flag and statues of Confederate officials. <\/strong>Mr. Trump said in Tuesday&#8217;s interview that he believed the debate over the flag is a freedom of speech issue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/15\/politics\/donald-trump-david-duke-charlottesville\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s defense of the <strong>\u2018very fine people\u2019 at Charlottesville white nationalist march <\/strong>has David Duke gushing\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/08\/28\/us\/politics\/donald-trump-housing-race.html\">New York Times<\/a>:<strong> \u201c\u2018No Vacancies\u2019 for Blacks:<\/strong> How Donald Trump Got His Start, and Was First Accused of Bias\u201d&nbsp;<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/15-most-offensive-things-trump-campaign-feminism-migration-racism\/\">Politico:<\/a> \u201cTrump, according to O\u2019Donnell, went on to say, <strong>\u2018Laziness is a trait in blacks.
