In response to Donald Trump\u2019s calls to \u201ctotally kill\u201d the Affordable Care Act, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement<\/em><\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no question that Donald Trump is serious about wanting to \u2018totally kill\u2019 the Affordable Care Act \u2014 just take a look at the last time he was in office. Not only did Trump repeatedly try to kill the law in Congress, but he also signed an executive order to stall ACA implementation, suspended a program to help stabilize insurance markets, and slashed funding designed to help people sign up for health care. Trump has made it clear: He will not stop until millions of hardworking Americans are kicked off of their health care \u2014 and voters won\u2019t let that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/em><\/strong><\/a>: \u201cAnd what we\u2019d like to do is totally kill [the ACA], but come up \u2014 before we do that \u2014 with something that’s great.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As president, Trump repeatedly tried to undermine the ACA and make it harder for people to sign up for health care.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama\u2019s signature health law.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump slashes funding that helps people sign up for Obamacare\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cAffirming its disdain for \u2018Obamacare,\u2019 the Trump administration on Thursday announced sharp cuts in programs promoting health care enrollment under the Affordable Care Act for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdvertising will be cut from $100 million spent on 2017 sign-ups to $10 million, said Health and Human Services officials. Funding for consumer helpers called \u2018navigators\u2019 will also be cut, from $62.5 million for 2017, to $36.8 million for next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration said Saturday that it was suspending a program that pays billions of dollars to insurers to stabilize health insurance markets under the Affordable Care Act, a freeze that could increase uncertainty in the markets and drive up premiums this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump narrowly failed in his wildly unpopular plan to repeal the ACA and was unable to come up with any plans to replace this essential program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cTrump claims ‘Obamacare is dead’ despite failure to repeal legislation\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cTrump would not elaborate on how the plan would protect those with preexisting conditions. He claimed that \u2018pieces\u2019 of his plan had been released before, saying later that it \u2018will\u2019 be developed and suggesting that despite his assurances it has not been fully formed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABC 11<\/a>: \u201cTrump says there’s ‘no very great rush’ to craft Republican health care alternative\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAnd I\u2019ve said from day one, the best thing I could do is let ObamaCare die and then come in with a plan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump (July 2020)<\/a>: \u201cYou heard me yesterday, we’re signing a health care plan within two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cPresident-elect Donald J. Trump demanded on Tuesday that Congress immediately repeal the Affordable Care Act and pass another health law quickly. His remarks put Republicans in the nearly impossible position of having only weeks to replace a health law that took nearly two years to pass.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the American people soundly rejected his MAGA agenda in 2020, Trump is STILL hellbent on ripping away affordable health care and jeopardizing protections for people with preexisting conditions. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cTrump Revives Plan to Dismantle Obamacare if Elected in 2024\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC<\/a>: \u201cTrump, by contrast, stood by his support for a lawsuit headed to the Supreme Court that seeks to invalidate Obamacare. The justices will hear the case one week after Election Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018I would like to terminate Obamacare<\/strong>, come up with a brand new, beautiful health care,\u2019 Trump said at the debate, which was moderated by NBC News’ Kristen Welker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cIn a Truth Social post, the leading GOP presidential candidate claimed he\u2019s \u2018seriously looking at alternatives\u2019 to replace ObamaCare, and that the failure to repeal the health law in 2017 while he was in office was \u2018a low point for the Republican Party.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
