In response to Donald Trump saying he plans to get rid of the ACA entirely, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement<\/em><\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s plan for the millions of Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act? Rip away their health care access and strip protections for preexisting conditions \u2014 or in his words, get \u2018rid of it entirely.\u2019 It\u2019s hard to imagine that Trump would run on such an out-of-touch platform after voters overwhelmingly rejected his MAGA agenda in 2020, but if Trump can\u2019t take a hint, voters will just have to give him one at the ballot box next November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is hellbent on \u201cdecimat[ing]\u201d the protections of the Affordable Care Act \u2014 and now is planning on \u201cgetting rid of it entirely.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe\u2019ve really decimated Obamacare.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve done a great job, but we\u2019re going to be getting rid of it entirely.\u201d <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Trump pledges to repeal the ACA in a second term, here\u2019s a recap of some of the most egregious statements he\u2019s made about killing the program:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cTrump Revives Plan to Dismantle Obamacare if Elected in 2024\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC<\/a>: \u201cTrump, by contrast, stood by his support for a lawsuit headed to the Supreme Court that seeks to invalidate Obamacare. The justices will hear the case one week after Election Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018I would like to terminate Obamacare<\/strong>, come up with a brand new, beautiful health care,\u2019 Trump said at the debate, which was moderated by NBC News’ Kristen Welker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cObamacare is a disaster. And I said, \u2018We\u2019re gonna do something about it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThe cost of Obamacare is out of control, plus, it\u2019s not good Healthcare. I\u2019m seriously looking at alternatives. We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it. It was a low point for the Republican Party, but we should never give up!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAnd<\/strong> what we\u2019d like to do is totally kill [the ACA].<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cIn a Truth Social post, the leading GOP presidential candidate claimed he\u2019s \u2018seriously looking at alternatives\u2019 to replace ObamaCare<\/strong>, and that the failure to repeal the health law in 2017 while he was in office was \u2018a low point for the Republican Party.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump does not care that the majority of Americans support access to affordable health care and protections for people with preexisting conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cBut what\u2019s clear is that an effort to \u2018terminate\u2019 Obamacare is not something Americans are pining for. Not only were the GOP\u2019s efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare during Trump\u2019s term historically unpopular, but the law also appears to have gotten more popular since then. \u2026 And when politicians talk of ending health insurance for tens of millions of Americans, dropping coverage of preexisting conditions and cutting Obamacare\u2019s Medicaid funding, things get even dicier.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reminder: Trump spent his entire presidency trying (and failing) to get rid of the ACA while making it harder for people to sign up for health care.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama\u2019s signature health law.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump slashes funding that helps people sign up for Obamacare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cAffirming its disdain for \u2018Obamacare,\u2019” the Trump administration on Thursday announced sharp cuts in programs promoting health care enrollment under the Affordable Care Act for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdvertising will be cut from $100 million spent on 2017 sign-ups to $10 million, said Health and Human Services officials. Funding for consumer helpers called \u2018navigators\u2019 will also be cut, from $62.5 million for 2017, to $36.8 million for next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cInsurance Experts: ObamaCare Mandate Repeal Driving Premium Increases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration said Saturday that it was suspending a program that pays billions of dollars to insurers to stabilize health insurance markets under the Affordable Care Act, a freeze that could increase uncertainty in the markets and drive up premiums this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
