In response to <\/em>Trump<\/em><\/a> endorsing punishments for women who get an abortion, refusing to rule out a national abortion ban, and standing by his MAGA allies as they push to ban medication abortion, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWomen are already being denied critical care every day under Donald Trump\u2019s horrifying abortion bans across the country \u2014 and Trump just endorsed prosecuting them. Trump\u2019s comments paint a very clear picture of the dangerous America he\u2019d force women to live in under a second term: punishments for getting an abortion, a cruel national ban, monitoring pregnancies, and an end to reproductive freedom as we know it. As Trump ramps up his assault on our basic rights, the American people are ready to make it clear they will not stand for his extreme anti-choice agenda, and will reject him at the ballot box.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump on if he would sign a six-week national abortion ban<\/a>: \u201cI’m looking at all options.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life \u2026 I\u2019m going to be in there pushing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump administration formally backed a House bill Monday that would ban abortions after 20 weeks. <\/strong>\u2026 It would make it a crime to perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with the possibility of a fine, up to five years in prison or both.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is standing by his allies as they push to ban medication abortion if Trump is reelected. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interviewer<\/a>: \u201cDo you think women should be able to get the abortion pill mifepristone? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cWell, I have an opinion on that, but I’m not going to explain.<\/strong> I’m not gonna say it yet. But I have pretty strong views on that. And I’ll be releasing it probably over the next week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interviewer: \u201cWell, this is a big question, Mr. President, because your allies have called for enforcement of the Comstock Act, which prohibits the mailing of drugs used for abortions by mail. The Biden Department of Justice has not enforced it. Would your Department of Justice enforce it?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cI will be making a statement on that over the next 14 days.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you forgot: Trump\u2019s MAGA allies are already making plans to ban medication abortion without Congress if he\u2019s reelected.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025<\/a>: \u201cFDA should \u2026 Reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs <\/strong>because the politicized approval process was illegal from the start. \u2026 Now that the Supreme Court has acknowledged that the Constitution contains no right to an abortion, the FDA is ethically and legally obliged to revisit and withdraw its initial approval, which was premised on pregnancy being an \u2018illness\u2019 and abortion being \u2018therapeutically\u2019 effective at treating this \u2018illness.\u2019 The FDA is statutorily charged with guaranteeing the safety and efficacy of drugs and therefore should withdraw this drug that is proven to be dangerous to women and by definition fatally unsafe for unborn children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe Heritage Foundation, which has proposed detailed policies for a potential GOP administration, argues that Comstock \u2018unambiguously prohibits mailing abortion drugs\u2019 and says the next administration should \u2018enforce federal law against providers and distributors of [abortion] pills.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Atlantic<\/a>: \u201cTheir next goal will be ending legal abortion in America once and for all. \u2026 Their ultimate aim in reviving the Comstock Act is to use it to shut down every abortion facility \u2018in all 50 states.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s comments are just the latest in his war on reproductive freedoms. After all, he\u2019s proud to be the reason millions of women live under cruel abortion bans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe broke <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly \u2026 But they\u2019re working, and it\u2019s working the way it\u2019s supposed to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FWIW<\/a>: \u201cThis week, we found more evidence that the Trump campaign has no interest in \u2018moderating\u2019 on the issue of abortion. On Monday, his team began running new Facebook video ads targeting voters in Iowa, referring to Trump as \u2018THE MOST Pro-Life President in history.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
