In response to the recently passed repeal of Donald Trump\u2019s extreme 1864 abortion ban, DNC spokesperson Cameron Niven<\/em><\/strong> <\/em>released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause of Donald Trump, women in Arizona will continue to live under an extreme abortion ban \u2013 whether the 1864 abortion ban, which will still take effect for months, causing chaos for women and doctors alike, or Arizona’s current extreme ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. Arizona women have no respite from suffering under these draconian bans thanks to Trump, who\u2019s ready to take his extreme abortion-banning agenda nationwide with or without the help of Congress. Voters know the only way to safeguard the fundamental freedoms of Arizonans and Americans across the country is to once again reject Trump in November and reelect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy it matters: Trump ushered in the end of Roe vs. Wade<\/strong> and its national protection of abortion rights, and now his party is suffering a massive voter backlash.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Make no mistake, Arizonans are living in 1864 now because Donald Trump dismantled Roe v. Wade<\/strong>,\u2019 Democratic state Sen. Priya Sundareshan of Tucson said in a news conference before the vote organized by the Biden campaign and the Arizona Democratic Party.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cThe 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization <\/strong>that overturned Roe v. Wade is cited <\/strong>22 times<\/strong> in the Arizona Supreme Court’s 4-2 ruling<\/strong>, which upheld <\/strong>a law that predates Arizona’s statehood that requires two to five years in prison for anyone aiding an abortion<\/strong>, except if the procedure is necessary to save the life of the mother.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roll Call<\/a>: \u201c<\/strong>In the 4-2 ruling Tuesday, the Arizona Supreme Court said that the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization makes the 1864 law enforceable,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe 160-year-old law<\/strong>, which predates Arizona\u2019s existence as a U.S. state and women\u2019s right to vote in the United States, makes abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison<\/strong> for anyone who performs an abortion or helps a woman obtain the procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arizona Republic<\/a>: \u201cOn Thursday, the Democratic National Committee will launch a billboard campaign in the Phoenix and Tempe areas alleging that Trump is responsible for Tuesday\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Abortion is banned in Arizona thanks to Donald Trump.<\/strong> He won\u2019t stop until it\u2019s banned nationwide,<\/strong>\u2019 five billboards will read, some in English and others in Spanish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also refused to rule out signing a national abortion ban.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump overturned <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> and is the reason one in three women live under extreme abortion bans across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
