In response to Marco Rubio <\/em>trying to cover<\/em><\/a> for Trump and MAGA Republicans\u2019 attacks on access to contraception, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust this week, Donald Trump refused to rule out restricting access to contraception as part of his extreme MAGA agenda, and now Marco Rubio is desperately trying to cover for him \u2013 despite leading the charge himself on legislation that could cut off birth control coverage for millions of women. Trump and the rest of the MAGA GOP put access to birth control at risk in the first place by overturning Roe v. Wade<\/em>, and voters will remember their all-out assault on reproductive freedom \u2013 including contraception \u2013 at the ballot box in November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Marco Rubio falsely claimed there aren\u2019t threats to contraception access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201c\u2018He\u2019s using the Senate floor to give all his vulnerable Democrats something to vote on,\u2019 Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said. \u2018There is no threat to contraception nationally. \u2026 It\u2019s all made up stuff.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

FACT CHECK: Access to contraception is under attack. Rubio should know, since he\u2019s one of the MAGA Republicans leading the charge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mother Jones<\/a>: \u201cMarco Rubio\u2019s Plan Could Cut Off Birth Control Coverage for Millions\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA new bill introduced by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.)<\/strong>, a rising conservative star and leading contender for the Republican vice-presidential nomination in 2012, could<\/strong> cut off birth control coverage for millions of women who receive it through their health plans.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBS News<\/a>: \u201cEarlier this year, Rubio co-sponsored the Blunt Amendment, a measure that would allow any employer to stop providing insurance coverage for items such as birth control if the employer finds those items morally objectionable.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Rubio\u2019s MAGA leader Donald Trump left the door open for restricting access to contraceptives and Plan B. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interviewer: \u201cDo you support any restrictions on a person\u2019s right to contraception?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe\u2019re looking at that, and I\u2019m going to have a policy on that very shortly and I think it\u2019s something that you\u2019ll find interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interviewer: \u201cThat suggests that you may want to support some restrictions? Like the morning after pill?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cYou know, things really do have a lot to do with the states. And some states are going to have different policies than others.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is also working closely with his Project 2025 allies, whose agenda includes restricting access to contraceptives if Trump gets back in the White House. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cInside the MAGA Plan to Attack Birth Control, Surveil Women and Ban the Abortion Pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe attacks on mifepristone and resurrection of Comstock stand out as particularly harmful proposals, but they are only two of the dozens of ways the Republicans behind Project 2025 envision restricting access to abortion and contraception if they win the White House next year.<\/strong> Elsewhere in the document, there are proposals to eliminate the morning-after pill from the Affordable Care Act\u2019s contraceptive mandate under the rationale that it is a \u2018potential abortifacient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heritage Foundation<\/a>: \u201cConservatives have to lead the way in \u2026 ending<\/strong> \u2026 senseless use of birth control pills.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cOrganizations including Heritage, former Vice President Mike Pence\u2019s group Advancing American Freedom, and the Southern Baptist Convention\u2019s public advocacy-focused Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission <\/strong>have worked behind the scenes over the last few weeks to distribute talking points, circulate policy recommendations and educate Republican officials and their staff about their ethical concerns with how IVF is commonly practiced in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThis is undeniably a Trump-driven operation.<\/strong> The biggest tell: Johnny McEntee \u2014 one of Trump’s closest White House aides, and his most fervent internal loyalty enforcer \u2014 is a senior adviser to Project 2025. One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cOn Tuesday, the Trump campaign sent a letter to pro-Trump, external organizations asking them to attend an \u2018entirely off-the-record, private,\u2019 and \u2018invite-only\u2019 meeting with senior campaign officials, according to a copy of the letter obtained by POLITICO.
