As MAGA minions follow Donald Trump\u2019s lead and seek to rip away medication abortion access nationwide, including voting to <\/em>restrict access to medication abortion<\/em><\/a> in Louisiana today, <\/em>DNC spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans vying to be his running mate are hellbent on ripping away access to medication abortion for millions of women. Overturning Roe v. Wade<\/em> was just the beginning in Trump and the MAGA GOP\u2019s long crusade to rip away women\u2019s reproductive freedoms \u2014 if they get their way, access to safe, effective medication abortion nationwide is next on the chopping block. No matter who Trump taps for his ticket, they\u2019ve made it clear they\u2019ll be pushing the same extreme anti-choice playbook voters have rejected over and over again.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Trump continues his attacks on reproductive freedoms, MAGA Republicans vying to be his running mate are following his lead and pushing to rip away access to medication abortion across the country.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tennessee Lookout<\/a>: \u201cA total of 145 members of Congress from 36 states, who opposed access to mifepristone remaining as it is today, submitted their own 39-page brief in the case, calling on the Supreme Court to limit access.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signers include<\/a>: Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, Elise Stefanik, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Michael Waltz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Hyde-Smith<\/a>: \u201cU.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and Congressman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) today reintroduced their Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act to strengthen federal controls over the regulation and distribution of chemical abortion drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe 31 original cosponsors of the Senate measure include: \u2026 Marsha Blackburn <\/strong>(R-Tenn.), \u2026 Tom Cotton<\/strong> (R-Ark.) \u2026 Mike Lee<\/strong> (R-Utah), \u2026 Marco Rubio<\/strong> (R-Fla.) \u2026 Tim Scott<\/strong> (R-S.C.) \u2026 Michael Waltz <\/strong>(R-Fla.).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim Scott<\/strong><\/a>:<\/strong> \u201cU.S. Senator Tim Scott<\/strong> introduced legislation to protect the sanctity of human life by prohibiting chemical abortions from being performed without the supervision of a healthcare provider.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cAs medication abortion becomes dominant, red states restrict pills\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn South Dakota, Gov. Kristi Noem<\/strong> recently signed legislation designed to restrict access to the drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cRamaswamy<\/strong>: Supreme Court should rule against FDA approval of abortion pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cA group of 69 Republican members of Congress filed a brief urging an appeals court to uphold the decision of a federal judge in Texas last week that would halt the prescription of a widely used abortion pill, after over 200 congressional Democrats lobbied for a reversal of the ruling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe 11 Republican senators who signed on \u2026 included Sens. Marco Rubio<\/strong> (Fla.) and Rick Scott (Fla.).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act<\/a>: \u201cThis bill prohibits the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from approving any new drug (either as a brand-name drug or a generic) intended to terminate a pregnancy and imposes additional restrictions on such drugs that are already approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnder the bill, an already-approved drug intended to terminate a pregnancy may be dispensed to a patient only with a prescription. Furthermore, the FDA may not approve any labeling change that would authorize (1) using the drug after 70 days of gestation, or (2) dispensing the drug by any means other than in-person administration by the prescribing health care practitioner.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elise Stefanik<\/strong> Letters Co-Signed, SBA Pro-Life America<\/a>: \u201cThis pro-life amicus brief asks the Supreme Court of the United States to deny a stay on a 5th Circuit ruling that would have returned chemical abortion drugs to the 2016 safety protocols, ending reckless and illegal mail-order abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s Project 2025 allies are also plotting to effectively ban medication abortion nationwide and shut down clinics in all 50 states if he is elected to a second term. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025<\/a>: \u201cFDA should \u2026 Reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs because the politicized approval process was illegal from the start \u2026 Now that the Supreme Court has acknowledged that the Constitution contains no right to an abortion, the FDA is ethically and legally obliged to revisit and withdraw its initial approval, which was premised on pregnancy being an \u2018illness\u2019 and abortion being \u2018therapeutically\u2019 effective at treating this \u2018illness.\u2019 The FDA is statutorily charged with guaranteeing the safety and efficacy of drugs and therefore should withdraw this drug that is proven to be dangerous to women and by definition fatally unsafe for unborn children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe Heritage Foundation, which has proposed detailed policies for a potential GOP administration, argues that Comstock \u2018unambiguously prohibits mailing abortion drugs\u2019 and says the next administration should \u2018enforce federal law against providers and distributors of [abortion] pills.\u2019”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Atlantic<\/a>: \u201cTheir next goal will be ending legal abortion in America once and for all. \u2026 Their ultimate aim in reviving the Comstock Act is to use it to shut down every abortion facility \u201cin all 50 states.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cIn an unprecedented move, U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk on Friday suspended the Food and Drug Administration’s longtime approval of key abortion pill mifepristone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNBC<\/a>: \u201cKacsmaryk, appointed to the federal bench by former President Donald Trump in 2019, previously worked for the Christian conservative legal group First Liberty Institute and has espoused socially conservative views on LGBTQ rights and abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
