Trump has in recent days been escalating his suggestions that he could prosecute his political enemies if elected in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMr. Trump was offered several opportunities by sympathetic interviewers in recent days to clarify or walk back his previous statements. Mr. Trump instead defended his position, saying at points that \u2018I don\u2019t want to look na\u00efve\u2019 and that \u2018sometimes revenge can be justified.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/4699868-trump-warns-public-breaking-point-if-jailed\/\">The Hill<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump warns of public &#8216;breaking point&#8217; if he&#8217;s jailed\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-says-if-he-is-jailed-that-could-be-breaking-point-americans-2024-06-02\/\">Reuters<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump said on Sunday he would accept home confinement or jail time after his historic conviction on criminal charges by a New York jury last week but that it would be tough for the public to accept.\u201d [&#8230;]\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I&#8217;m not sure the public would stand for it,\u2019 the former president told Fox News of a potential prison sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I think it&#8217;d be tough for the public to take. You know, at a certain point, there&#8217;s a breaking point.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump VP contender Byron Donalds suggested that Black Americans were better off under Jim Crow \u2014 and then doubled down on his comments again and again and again.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/election\/trump-black-voters-philadelphia-20240604.html\">Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>: \u201c\u2018You see, during Jim Crow, the Black family was together. During Jim Crow, more Black people were not just conservative \u2014 Black people have always been conservative-minded \u2014 but more Black people voted conservatively,\u2019 he said. \u2018And then H.E.W., Lyndon Johnson \u2014 you go down that road, and now we are where we are,\u2019 he added, referring to the former U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/4705247-byron-donalds-suggests-black-families-stronger-under-jim-crow\/\">The Hill<\/a>: \u201cDonalds suggests Black families were stronger during Jim Crow era\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMarcus W. Robinson, a senior spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee, slammed Donalds for his statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018This is Donald Trump\u2019s MAGA Republican Party: VP contender Byron Donalds is praising Jim Crow, suggesting that Black families were better off during segregation,\u2019 Robinson said. \u2018Let\u2019s be clear: Jim Crow ripped apart Black families, and it\u2019s absurd to suggest it was anything but a horrific stain on our country\u2019s history.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1798546012962996267\">Abby Philip, CNN<\/a>: \u201cA lot of them are offended by the idea that you would repeat \u2018Jim Crow\u2019 three times in your comments as if to suggest that that was a good time period because that Black families were, in your words, \u2018together\u2019&#8230;I mean, it sounds like nostalgia. Do you regret using that timeframe as a reference?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donalds: \u201c&#8230;I didn\u2019t even insinuate that.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SfCzJHfpyUc\">Phillip<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019re suggesting that because the Black family was together, they were better off than they are now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donalds: \u201c&#8230;I never suggested that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/acyn\/status\/1798863215289667826?s=46&amp;t=2jzT4vkxri9fAtZZ43TAJg\">Donalds<\/a>: \u201cThat was the only point. That stuff that comes up about Jim Crow and twisting my words, saying I was being nostalgic, or saying that Jim Crow was good for Black people, that&#8217;s all political spin. It&#8217;s a lie. It&#8217;s gaslighting, and that&#8217;s truly unfortunate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joy Reid, MSNBC: \u201cSo, here&#8217;s the challenge. Congressman, you started out talking about your family, talking about your mom, talking about being raised, and you on your own, brought up Jim Crow. In fact, you said Jim Crow three times for emphasis. It wasn&#8217;t the media or the Democrats or gaslighters who brought up Jim Crow. It was you. You brought up Jim Crow.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BidenHQ\/status\/1799105628771659959\">Fox News<\/a>: Donalds: \u201cI\u2019m not going to do an apology tour.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The RNC is preparing for Trump\u2019s Convict Convention \u2014 including the possibility that Trump will address the convention virtually.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/atrupar\/status\/1797991631938818252\">Interviewer<\/a>: \u201cThe convention happens next month, and your nominee could be sentenced to actual jail time four days before everything kicks off in Milwaukee. Have you planned for that at the RNC?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatley: \u201cYeah, we&#8217;re working on that right now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/atrupar\/status\/1797992345717080265\">Interviewer<\/a>: \u201cWould he make a speech from prison?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whatley: \u201cEverything is being considered at this point in time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/3027656\/rnc-is-preparing-for-trump-to-accept-nomination-from-prison\/\">Washington Examiner<\/a>: \u201cRepublican National Committee Co-Chairman Michael Whatley said the RNC is prepared for the possibility Donald Trump may deliver his convention remarks from prison, noting the former president\u2019s June 11 sentencing will come just days before the convention.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAGA VP contenders are tripping over themselves to pass Trump\u2019s latest litmus test: undermining the rule of law.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4694822-donald-trump-guilty-verdict-tom-cotton-elise-stefanik-jd-vance-marco-rubio\/\">The Hill<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s allies and those jockeying for a spot on the ticket have for weeks echoed his criticisms of the case, with several potential vice presidential contenders appearing at the courthouse in support of the former president. Following the verdict Thursday, they unleashed attacks on the judge, the district attorney and the legal system.\u201d<strong><br><\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/votetimscott\/status\/1796177254218686561\">Tim Scott<\/a>: \u201cA friendly reminder that this trial is\u2026 A sham. A spectacle. A stunt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA politically motivated circus in an effort to engineer an election and keep Donald J. The nakedly partisan judge biased the trial at every turn, from allowing an unconstitutional indictment in the first place to excluding key evidence to rigging the jury instructions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/marcorubio\/status\/1796288773161984161\">Marco Rubio<\/a>: \u201cThe verdict in New York is a complete travesty that makes a mockery of our system of justice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/05\/31\/trump-vp-conviction-felony-republican\">Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe rush to defend the former president caters to Trump&#8217;s fondness for public displays of loyalty after attendees at the courthouse trial became a veritable who&#8217;s who of Trump loyalists.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/trumps-potential-vp-running-mates-post-guilty-verdict-rcna154790\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cIt was a fast and furious \u2014 and wholly unsurprising \u2014 political coda to a Trump legal case that had also turned into an unofficial audition stage for his potential running mates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump\u2019s VP contenders in the Senate blocked a bill to protect access to contraception. Then, MAGA minions hit the airwaves to rail against the bill.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/senate-republicans-block-bill-protect-americans-access-contraception-rcna155448\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans block bill to protect Americans&#8217; access to contraception\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe vote on the Right To Contraception Act was 51-39, falling short of the 60 votes needed to defeat a filibuster and move forward in the chambers [as] Republicans said the bill is unnecessary as the use of birth control is already protected under Supreme Court precedent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans who voted against include: Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Tom Cotton, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Lee, and Joni Ernst.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/tim-scott-contraception-bill-vote-fox-news_n_666132b6e4b0f507c4393283\">HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cSen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) pointed to Democrats and largely declined to answer when asked why he joined fellow Republicans in blocking a bill that would guarantee access to contraceptives on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018Why vote nay and explain how that\u2019s not a bad issue for Republicans?\u2019 Fox News host Bret Baier asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScott, who is reportedly being considered as former President Donald Trump\u2019s 2024 running mate, argued that people already have access to contraceptives, claimed that \u2018will continue,\u2019 and accused Democrats of politicizing the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThen, he changed the subject to abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/06\/politics\/video\/the-lead-glenn-youngkin-virginia-gop-republican-trump-conviction-nikki-haley-jake-tapper\">Jake Tapper, CNN<\/a>:&nbsp; \u201cIf Republicans win the White House and take control of the Senate, which, they have a decent chance of doing, and retain control of the US House, should voters expect contraception to be at risk as the right to abortion is at risk?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Youngkin: \u201c\u2018I believe this is very much a publicity vote and not one based on real policy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alreporter.com\/2024\/06\/05\/sen-britt-criticizes-right-to-contraception-act-pushes-own-legislation\/\">Alabama Political Reporter<\/a>: \u201cIn a speech on the Senate floor on Tuesday, Alabama Senator Katie Britt criticized the Right to Contraception Act currently being championed by Senate and House Democrats. She called the decision to hold a vote on the bill today part of a \u2018Summer of Scare Tactics\u2019 and a \u2018campaign of fearmongering.\u2019\u201d [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile Britt also pointed out that \u2018contraception is available in every state across the nation,\u2019 some Republican politicians and appointees have begun suggesting contraception may be a future target for government regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAGA Republicans slipped a poison pill into the VA\u2019s must-pass funding bill, once again putting veterans\u2019 reproductive health care at risk.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/house-republicans-pass-new-abortion-restrictions-veterans-affairs-bill-rcna155615\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cHouse Republicans approved a veterans&#8217; funding bill on Wednesday that would limit abortion access for troops and veterans, setting up another partisan clash with Democrats in the Senate and the White House ahead of a Sept. 30 deadline to fund the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA controversial provision in the spending bill would prohibit the Department of Veterans Affairs from offering abortion counseling and, in some cases, abortion procedures to veterans and their beneficiaries. It overturns a Biden administration rule that allows the VA to provide abortion care when the life or health of the mother is in danger or in cases of rape or incest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RNC co-chair Lara Trump and Trump VP contender Tom Cotton refused to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/meetthepress\/status\/1797258615000052115\">Peter Alexander, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cWill you commit to certifying the 2024 election results no matter who wins?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cotton: \u201c&#8230;I will accept the results of the election and certify them if it&#8217;s a fair and a free election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/politics\/2024\/06\/02\/sotu-lara-trump-full-interview.cnn\">Kasie Hunt, CNN<\/a>: \u201cWill you commit to accepting the election results in 2024?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lara Trump: \u201cOf course. If this is a free, fair, and transparent election, absolutely\u2026 We can\u2019t repeat an election like we had in 2020 where you had half the country with huge, sweeping questions about what happened that never got answered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunt: \u201cWell, there was zero evidence of widespread fraud that could have changed the ultimate outcome in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lara Trump: \u201cAbsolutely not, most of those lawsuits were swept away on clerical errors\u2026 But then people wanted to know, what happened across the country?
