President Biden and Vice President Harris are delivering on their promises to America\u2019s seniors, including Black seniors. The Biden-Harris administration is protecting and strengthening Social Security and Medicare benefits and successfully passed the historic Inflation Reduction Act, which capped insulin costs at $35 a month for seniors, drastically lowering prices for the third of Black Medicare beneficiaries who are affected by diabetes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Donald Trump tried to cut funding for Social Security and Medicare every year he was in office and plans to take away Black seniors\u2019 health care if given another term. President Trump has made it clear he doesn\u2019t care about America\u2019s seniors  \u2014 President Biden and Vice President Harris are the only candidates fighting to maintain the retirement benefits that Black Americans have earned and deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Biden-Harris administration has repeatedly stood up to Trump and his extreme MAGA allies who want to cut funding to Social Security and Medicare. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

AARP<\/a>: \u201c\u2018If anyone here tries to cut Social Security or Medicare or raise the retirement age I will stop them<\/strong>,\u2019 Biden said. \u2018I will protect and strengthen Social Security and make the wealthy pay their fair share<\/strong>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social Security Administration<\/a>: \u201cAfrican Americans receiving benefits are helped by Social Security’s cost-of-living protection which guarantees a benefit that is annually adjusted for inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cJoe Biden swiftly seized on Donald Trump\u2019s suggestion that he would cut \u2018entitlements\u2019 like social security and Medicare if re-elected, saying: \u2018Not on my watch.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cPresident Trump pledged on Saturday to pursue a permanent cut to the payroll taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare<\/strong> if he wins reelection in November, a hard-to-accomplish political gambit that some experts see as a major headache for the future of the country\u2019s entitlement programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mediaite<\/a>: \u201cDuring a Fox News town hall, President Donald Trump promised to cut entitlements like Medicare and Social Security if were to win a second term.<\/strong> \u2026 \u2018But if you don\u2019t cut something in entitlements, you will never really deal with the debt,\u2019 town hall co-moderator Martha MacCallum interjected, alluding to social safety programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. \u2018Oh, we\u2019ll be cutting,\u2019 Trump rushed to confirm.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Trump is vowing to rip away Black seniors\u2019 health care if reelected, President Biden is strengthening and protecting the Affordable Care Act, which has significantly reduced racial disparities in health care among Black Americans.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe number of Black Americans under age 65 without health insurance has dropped by 40 percent<\/strong> since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), according to a new report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn 2011 about 7.1 million African Americans lacked coverage\ufeff, but by 2019 that number had dropped to 4.4 million, according to the report by researchers in HHS\u2019s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFormer President Donald Trump is vowing yet again to repeal the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, which would have devastating impacts on Black communities and their access to affordable and quality health insurance.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump, the leading 2024 Republican presidential candidate, wrote that he is \u2018seriously looking at alternatives\u2019 to Obamacare, which he argued is too costly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201c<\/strong>Obamacare has gotten popular. Trump doesn\u2019t care\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Biden delivered on his promise to cap insulin at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare, drastically lowering prices for the roughly 38% of Black Medicare beneficiaries who take insulin to manage their diabetes.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOver five million Black Americans live with diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association. Roughly 19 percent of all African Americans in the United States over 20 years old have diabetes, compared to just 7 percent of all white Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis could be a huge improvement for many Black Medicare recipients who receive drug coverage and also take insulin. As of 2011, roughly 38 percent of Black Medicare beneficiaries had diabetes, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. And nearly a third of Black Medicare beneficiaries reported health care cost-related problems in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


CNN<\/a>: \u201cMore Americans can now get insulin for $35\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCongress, the White House and new players in the market have increased pressure on insulin manufacturers to lower their prices. Eli Lilly and Sanofi announced that they would institute $35 caps shortly after President Joe Biden called on drugmakers to do so in his State of the Union address last year.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AARP<\/a>: \u201cThe new prescription drug law allows Medicare for the first time ever to negotiate the prices of some high-cost drugs,<\/strong> starting with 10 medications whose prices are being negotiated this year. Biden called on Congress to next allow Medicare to more than double the number of high-cost prescriptions drugs whose prices the government can negotiate each year.  \u2018It\u2019s time to go further and give Medicare the power to negotiate lower prices for 500 drugs over the next decade,\u2019 he said.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
