In the two years since Donald Trump\u2019s handpicked Supreme Court justices overturned<em> Roe v. Wade,<\/em> MAGA Republicans have continued to push their extreme anti-choice agenda and are now threatening access to IVF, a medical procedure that has helped millions of Americans start and grow their families. Anti-choice MAGA Republicans are relentless in their crusade against women\u2019s access to reproductive care \u2013 and Trump has made clear that he will double down on these attacks if he retakes power. But President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats up and down the ballot will continue to defend reproductive freedom, including IVF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/05\/13\/americans-overwhelmingly-say-access-to-ivf-is-a-good-thing\/\"><strong>Seventy percent<\/strong><\/a><strong> of Americans believe access to IVF is a good thing. Will you continue to push an out-of-touch agenda that ignores your constituents who want more reproductive freedoms, not less?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/538\/ivf-abortion-access-shape-2024-election\/story?id=108301112\">ABC News<\/a>: <strong>\u201cAmericans continue to support IVF and abortion access\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe vast majority of registered voters, <strong>80 percent, think IVF should be legal.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/navigatorresearch.org\/majorities-of-americans-believe-reproductive-care-should-be-easier-to-access\/\">Navigator Research<\/a>: <strong>\u201cLarge majorities say reproductive care like birth control pills and IVF should be made easier to access, including majorities of Republicans.<\/strong> \u2026 Americans across party lines also say access to fertility planning like IVF should be easier to access, including 72 percent of Democrats, 59 percent of independents, and 53 percent of Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Do you believe every American should have the freedom to start and grow their family when and how they choose?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s Project 2025 cronies want to <strong>restrict access to IVF<\/strong>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/01\/anti-abortion-movement-ivf-war-00149766\">Politico<\/a>: <strong>\u201cAnti-abortion advocates worked for five decades to topple Roe v. Wade. They\u2019re now laying the groundwork for a yearslong fight to curb in vitro fertilization.<\/strong> Since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled last month that frozen embryos are children, the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups have been strategizing how to convince not just GOP officials but evangelicals broadly that they should have serious moral concerns about fertility treatments like IVF and that access to them should be curtailed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey plan to appeal to evangelical denominations and their leaders to take a firm stance that IVF as practiced in the U.S. destroys human life. That, they hope, will reshape how conservative Christians \u2014 and in turn, the officials they elect \u2014 view the issue, just as it did on abortion. Ultimately, it could lead to laws that create a patchwork of IVF access in the United States, where the procedure is more accessible in liberal states and more limited in conservative ones.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.2. Would you let Donald Trump and his anti-IVF cronies set the extreme MAGA agenda?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/society\/project-2025-trump-hhs\/\">TIME<\/a>: \u201cRoger Severino, a prominent attorney for the Christian right, led the Department of Health and Human Services\u2019 Office of Civil Rights during the Trump administration. In 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2017\/06\/the-man-behind-trumps-religious-freedom-agenda-for-health-care\/528912\/\"><em>The Atlantic<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>called him <strong>\u2018the man behind Trump\u2019s religious-freedom agenda for health care.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSeverino calls for HHS to prohibit women\u2019s health facilities that receive Title X funding from distributing condoms. And by declaring that life begins at conception, <strong>his manifesto appears to commit HHS to finding ways to outlaw IVF, which relies on generating multiple embryos, most of which are not implanted. It could also eliminate birth control methods like the IUD and even some forms of the pill.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/donald-trump-deep-ties-anti-ivf-movement_n_65f366f9e4b0b4d0b898d31e\">HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cDonald Trump Has Deep Ties To Anti-IVF Movement\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile in the White House, <strong>Trump and his administration praised, appointed and worked with some of the nation\u2019s most extreme thought leaders who believe the IVF process is akin to murder.<\/strong> <strong>Trump hosted the Alabama Supreme Court chief justice who wrote the IVF ruling twice: once during his 2016 campaign and in 2018 at the White House. <\/strong>(This is the same chief justice who recently appeared on a QAnon conspiracist\u2019s show.)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4.3. Donald Trump never stops bragging about his role in overturning <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong> \u2014 which has paved the way for devastating abortion bans and attacks on everything from <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/abortion-pills-louisiana-controlled-dangerous-substances-0984bfed536a5110997dd9c8264bf9e3#:~:text=The%20Republican%20governor%20announced%20his,of%20abortion%20in%20the%20U.S..\"><strong>medication abortion<\/strong><\/a><strong> to <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/embryos-ivf-abortion-personhood-laws-ffe4f4d326469a97fef999254ca86eea\"><strong>IVF<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/a><strong>across the country. How much longer will you enable these attacks?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/24\/health\/alabama-ivf-roe-v-wade\/index.html#:~:text=That%20decision%20is%20the%20first,Roe%20v.%20Wade%20in%202022.\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cHow the reversal of Roe v. Wade led to the Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are children\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/02\/25\/us\/politics\/alabama-ivf-ruling-republicans-democrats.html\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[The Alabama ruling was] made possible by the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of Roe v. Wade in its 2022 Dobbs decision, which was a result of Mr. Trump\u2019s appointment of three justices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/23\/louisiana-abortion-pill-criminal-penalties-00159735\">Politico<\/a>: Louisiana is set to make possessing abortion pills without a prescription punishable by up to 10 years in prison<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/maga-plan-attack-birth-control-surveil-women-ban-abortion-pill-1234934807\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cInside the MAGA Plan to Attack Birth Control, Surveil Women and Ban the Abortion Pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe attacks on mifepristone and resurrection of Comstock stand out as particularly harmful proposals, but they are only two of the dozens of ways <strong>the Republicans behind Project 2025 envision restricting access to abortion and contraception if they win the White House next year.<\/strong> Elsewhere in the document,<strong> there are proposals to eliminate the morning-after pill from the Affordable Care Act\u2019s contraceptive mandate under the rationale that it is a \u2018potential abortifacient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.4. Do you support extreme anti-abortion legislation that could rip away IVF access from Americans who want to start a family nationwide?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/02\/27\/republicans-alabama-ivf-ruling-00143391\">Politico<\/a>: At the same time that they are professing support for IVF, dozens of congressional Republicans have signed onto so-called personhood legislation with no carve-out for embryos in clinics, which, if enacted, would upend how the procedure is practiced in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mattyglesias\/status\/1770549162183885139?s=20\">Matthew Yglesias, Bloomberg<\/a>: <strong>\u201cIn case anyone is still covering the IVF question, today\u2019s new Republican Study Committee budget specifically endorses the idea that embryos have the full legal rights of persons under the 14th Amendment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/congress-ivf-access-abortion-alabama-bill-ruling-7f68248f36900d4583d9b181f3b4e380\">Associated Press<\/a>: <strong>\u201cRepublicans block Senate bill to protect nationwide access to IVF treatments\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/house-republicans-life-at-conception-ivf-exception-2024-2?utm_source=copy-link&amp;utm_campaign=business-sf&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=topbar\">Business Insider<\/a>: \u201cMost House Republicans have cosponsored a bill declaring that life begins from the moment of conception, a position under increased scrutiny after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are \u2018unborn children.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThis Congress, 125 House Republicans \u2014 including Speaker Mike Johnson \u2014 have cosponsored the \u2018Life at Conception Act,\u2019<\/strong> which states that the term \u2018human being\u2019 includes \u2018all stages of life, including the moment of fertilization, cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe bill does not include any exception for in vitro fertilization (IVF), a reproductive treatment that allows mothers to fertilize several eggs outside the womb in order to increase the chances of a viable pregnancy.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/personhood-bills-ivf-restrictions-alabama-rcna140228\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cBut with the landmark Roe ruling protecting those rights gone, efforts by conservative lawmakers and judges to advance <strong>fetal personhood bills pose a real threat to some fertility treatments, including IVF<\/strong>, reproductive rights advocates say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2024\/05\/13\/americans-overwhelmingly-say-access-to-ivf-is-a-good-thing\/\"><strong>70%<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/a><strong>of Americans believe access to IVF is a good thing.
