The American people know that our fundamental freedoms are on the line in this election, and today&#8217;s vote gives them another reason to reject Trump and whichever extremist joins his ticket this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW: The vast majority of Senate Republicans voted against protecting access to IVF, including many of Trump\u2019s MAGA VP contenders.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/4720506-senate-republicans-block-ivf-legislation\/\">The Hill<\/a>: <strong>\u201cSenate Republicans block legislation to codify IVF access\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThursday\u2019s vote comes a week after Republicans blocked a similar bill from Democrats that would have guaranteed the right to contraception.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans who voted against include:<strong> J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Tom Cotton, Bill Hagerty, Katie Britt, Marsha Blackburn, Joni Ernst, <\/strong>and <strong>Mike Lee.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump\u2019s VP contenders have backed legislation that could rip away access to IVF and railed against legislation to protect IVF.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/house-republicans-life-at-conception-ivf-exception-2024-2?utm_source=copy-link&amp;utm_campaign=business-sf&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=topbar\">Business Insider<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThis Congress, 125 House Republicans \u2014 including Speaker Mike Johnson \u2014 have cosponsored the \u2018Life at Conception Act,\u2019<\/strong> which states that the term \u2018human being\u2019 includes \u2018all stages of life, including the moment of fertilization, cloning, or other moment at which an individual member of the human species comes into being.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe bill does not include any exception for in vitro fertilization (IVF), <\/strong>a reproductive treatment that allows mothers to fertilize several eggs outside the womb in order to increase the chances of a viable pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans who cosponsored this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/431\/cosponsors\">legislation<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/1011\/cosponsors?s=9&amp;r=1&amp;q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22life+at+conception%22%7D\">House<\/a> include: <strong>Byron Donalds<\/strong>, <strong>Wesley Hunt<\/strong>, <strong>Marjorie Taylor Greene<\/strong>, and <strong>Michael Waltz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans who cosponsored this legislation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/senate-bill\/99\/cosponsors\">Senate<\/a> include: <strong>Tim Scott<\/strong>, <strong>Marsha Blackburn<\/strong>, and <strong>Bill Hagerty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/republicans-care-so-much-about-protecting-ivf-that-theyre-about-to-block-a-bill-that-would-do-just-that\">Vanity Fair<\/a>: \u201cOn Wednesday, Senate Republicans are expected to object to Tammy Duckworth\u2019s Right to Build Families Act, because, surprise: They don\u2019t actually care about families and aren\u2019t \u2018pro-life.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018It\u2019s idiotic for us to take the bait,\u2019 Senator <strong>J.D. Vance<\/strong> told Politico, as though the measure were some kind of political trap. (He also noted that he had not actually read the bill yet.)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/02\/27\/senate-democrats-ivf-tammy-duckworth-00143535\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThough some, including Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), have said they\u2019re willing to consider the legislation, other conservatives, such as Sen. <strong>Marco Rubio<\/strong> (R-Fla.), insist it\u2019s unnecessary, dismissing the idea that other states could quickly follow in Alabama\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c&#8230;he insisted to reporters Tuesday there is <strong>\u2018no threat to IVF\u2019 that would require congressional action.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/congress-ivf-access-abortion-alabama-bill-ruling-7f68248f36900d4583d9b181f3b4e380\">Associated Press<\/a>: <strong>\u201cRepublicans block Senate bill to protect nationwide access to IVF treatments\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/03\/12\/anti-abortion-advocates-gop-ivf-00146369\">Politico<\/a>:<strong> \u201cIn Congress, anti-abortion groups are vowing to penalize GOP members if they support pro-IVF bills they believe go too far. \u2026 They want lawmakers to seize the moment created by the Alabama decision to impose restrictions on the way IVF is commonly practiced in the U.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cSome Republicans [sic] lawmakers are heeding the anti-abortion movement\u2019s concerns.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/politics\/2024\/02\/believing-embryos-are-life-wanting-protections-for-ivf-clinics-after-alabama-ruling-not-mutually-exclusive-britt.html\">AL.com<\/a>: <strong>\u201c[Katie Britt]<\/strong>, who is pro-life, did not comment on whether she agrees with the court ruling that frozen embryos are \u2018children.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VP contenders also celebrated Trump\u2019s overturning of <\/strong><strong><em>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong><strong>, which made extreme attacks on IVF access possible.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1r6O9B1Io0BqVWovloYjbYKfKo32Lk10j\/view\"><strong>J.D. Vance<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cI think that what I really think on \u2013 so first of all the Dobbs decision everybody knows overruled Roe v. Wade I think that was the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/meet-the-press\/meet-press-july-9-2023-n1306273\"><strong>Doug Burgum<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cWell, my position is that I support the Dobbs decision\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/14jJBBUunzY2NIb14c4DahizWyyb5Q2k5\/view?usp=sharing\"><strong>Elise Stefanik<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cSince Roe was overturned and the Supreme Court restored the correct interpretation of our Constitution, 25 states have life saving laws on the books.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesregister.com\/story\/opinion\/columnists\/caucus\/2023\/06\/23\/dobbs-abortion-supreme-court-more-work-protect-life\/70349455007\/\"><strong>Tim Scott<\/strong><\/a>: \u201cI was proud to vote to confirm Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, and I have never been prouder than I was last June 24 when they ignored the angry mobs, followed the Constitution, and overturned Roe v. Wade. Wade\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor decades, this is a day so many of us have prayed for and worked towards.
