As Donald Trump\u2019s anti-choice running mate JD Vance travels to Arizona for a rally today, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWomen in Arizona are living under an abortion ban only made possible by Donald Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade<\/em> \u2013 and if given the chance, Trump and JD Vance would go even further and force their extreme anti-choice Project 2025 agenda onto Arizonans. Vance wants abortion to be \u2018illegal nationally,\u2019 attacked exceptions for rape and incest, and is even willing to ban women from traveling out of their state for reproductive care. In November, voters will soundly reject the Trump-Vance ticket\u2019s anti-choice extremism at the ballot box \u2013 in Arizona and across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance is in Arizona today, a state with an extreme abortion ban \u2014 which has no exceptions for rape or incest \u2014 made possible by Donald Trump. Vance has been clear he supports bans like the one in Arizona and in 21 other states across the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cThe U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade overrode many state abortion laws, but after the court reversed that decision nearly two years ago, some states began once again to enact restrictions. In Arizona\u2019s case, the Legislature passed a law in 2022 banning the procedure after 15 weeks of pregnancy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arizona Attorney General\u2019s Office<\/a>: \u201cArizona law does not have exceptions for rape or incest.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cWe broke Roe v. Wade and we did something that nobody thought was possible. We gave it back to the states, and the states are working very brilliantly \u2026 But they\u2019re working, and it\u2019s working the way it\u2019s supposed to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance\u2019s anti-choice record includes wanting abortion to be \u201cillegal nationally,\u201d criticizing exceptions for rape and incest, comparing abortion to slavery, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance said in 2022 he \u2018would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring a podcast interview in January 2022, then-candidate JD Vance said he \u2018certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally\u2019 and was \u2018sympathetic\u2019 to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance<\/a>: \u201cI think that what I really think on \u2013 so first of all, the <\/strong>Dobbs<\/em><\/strong> decision, everybody knows, overruled <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 I think that was the right decision.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manu Raju, CNN<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance, the Ohio GOP senator, says Republicans need to shift their approach on abortion and begin to embrace federal legislation \u2026 \u2018We can\u2019t give into the idea that the federal Congress has no role in this matter,\u2019 he told us.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance Backs \u2018National Standard\u2019 for Abortions\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daily Beast<\/a>: \u201cJ.D. Vance suggested he would support prohibiting abortion even in cases of rape and incest\u2014and dismissed those catalysts as \u2018inconvenient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance Compared Abortion to Slavery\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cDuring his campaign for Senate, Vance applauded the overturning of Roe v. Wade and supported Texas\u2019s ban on abortion, which does not allow exceptions other than cases where the mother\u2019s life is at risk.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Two wrongs don\u2019t make a right,\u2019 he said in 2021 when asked whether abortion laws should allow for exceptions for rape and incest.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans block Democratic bill codifying Roe v. Wade abortion protections\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSenate Republicans on Wednesday blocked legislation led by Democrats to revive the protections of Roe v. Wade in the wake of the Supreme Court eliminating the nationwide right to abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans who voted against include: JD Vance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letter Signed by Vance and Other Members of Congress<\/a>: \u201cAbortion is not health care\u2014it is a brutal act that destroys the life of an unborn child and hurts women. Congress did not authorize HHS to extend special provisions for abortion such as these under the guise of \u2018health care.\u2019 The Proposed Rule unlawfully thwarts the enforcement of compassionate laws protecting unborn children and their mothers, and directs health care providers to defy lawful court orders and search warrants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump-Vance ticket is in lockstep, pushing an extreme anti-choice Project 2025 agenda as their allies plot to ban abortion nationwide and rip away reproductive care. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sean Hannity, Fox News<\/a>: \u201cSo you completely agree, are in full, complete agreement with President Trump?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance: \u201cMy view is that Donald Trump is the leader of the Republican Party and his views on abortion are going to be the views that dominate this party and drive this party forward.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rolling Stone<\/a>: \u201cInside the MAGA Plan to Attack Birth Control, Surveil Women and Ban the Abortion Pill\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe attacks on mifepristone and resurrection of Comstock stand out as particularly harmful proposals, but they are only two of the dozens of ways the Republicans behind Project 2025 envision restricting access to abortion and contraception if they win the White House next year.<\/strong> Elsewhere in the document, there are proposals to eliminate the morning-after pill from the Affordable Care Act\u2019s contraceptive mandate under the rationale that it is a \u2018potential abortifacient.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThis is undeniably a Trump-driven operation.<\/strong> The biggest tell: Johnny McEntee \u2014 one of Trump’s closest White House aides, and his most fervent internal loyalty enforcer \u2014 is a senior adviser to Project 2025. One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cRoberts told me that he views Heritage\u2019s role today as \u2018institutionalizing Trumpism.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cOrganizations including Heritage, former Vice President Mike Pence\u2019s group Advancing American Freedom, and the Southern Baptist Convention\u2019s public advocacy-focused Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission <\/strong>have worked behind the scenes over the last few weeks to distribute talking points, circulate policy recommendations and educate Republican officials and their staff about their ethical concerns with how IVF is commonly practiced in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vast majority of voters in Arizona and across the country reject anti-choice extremism like that contained in the Trump-Vance Project 2025 agenda, and want to protect abortion access.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cAccording to AP VoteCast, a broad survey of the electorate, 61% of Arizona voters in the 2022 midterm elections said abortion should be legal in most or all cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwo-thirds of midterm voters in Arizona said the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of Roe v. Wade was an important factor in their vote for that election.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbout 6 in 10 Arizona voters in that election said they would favor a law guaranteeing access to legal abortion nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cThe polling, from CBS News and YouGov, shows striking margins in Arizona and Florida for enshrining abortion rights into those states\u2019 constitutions. That position leads 65 percent to 21 percent in Arizona.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pew Research<\/a>: \u201cBroad Public Support for Legal Abortion Persists 2 Years After Dobbs\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbout six-in-ten (63%) say abortion should be legal in all or most cases. This share has grown 4 percentage points since 2021 \u2013 the year prior to the 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization that overturned Roe\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSince before Roe was overturned, both parties have seen a modest uptick in the share who say abortion should be legal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cAmericans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
