In case you missed it: Donald Trump pledged to pardon violent January 6 insurrectionists during his disastrous interview at the National Association of Black Journalists conference; Trump doubled down on his promise that his supporters \u201cwon\u2019t have to vote anymore\u201d; Trump refused to say JD Vance is fit to lead; Vance again refused to commit to certifying election results, doubled down on praise of Project 2025 leadership, and suggested repealing the Affordable Care Act would still be a priority for the Trump-Vance ticket; Vance defended his attacks on millions of Americans without children; Vance wrote a \u201cviolent\u201d book foreword for Project 2025 architect Kevin Roberts; Vance skipped a Senate vote on legislation to expand the child tax credit; another one of Trump\u2019s draconian abortion bans took effect in Iowa; and a Trump ally reaffirmed that the RNC platform \u201cabsolutely\u201d paves the way for a national abortion ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Donald Trump\u2019s disastrous interview at the National Association of Black Journalists conference was a \u201ctrain wreck\u201d where he once again pledged to <\/strong><strong>pardon violent January 6 insurrectionists who assaulted police officers<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/the-reidout\/reidout-blog\/nabj-trump-interview-panel-chicago-rcna164300\">MSNBC<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s NABJ appearance was the train wreck many expected\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KamalaHQ\/status\/1818723251100827889\">Rachel Scott, ABC News<\/a>: \u201c140 police officers were assaulted [on January 6]. Their injuries included broken bones, a lost eye, two cracked ribs, two smashed spinal discs, another had a stroke. Do the people who assaulted those 140 officers deserve pardons?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[Trump refuses to answer]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott: \u201cBut sir, my question is on those rioters who assaulted officers. Would you pardon those people?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Donald Trump: <strong>\u201c<\/strong>Oh absolutely I would. I won\u2019t need your vote.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Acyn\/status\/1817007890496102490\">Trump<\/a>: \u201cYou won\u2019t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what \u2013 it will be fixed, it will be fine. You won\u2019t have to vote anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JD Vance\u2019s first two weeks on the ticket have been so bad that even Trump downplayed his own VP pick and refused to say if Vance is fit to lead.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KamalaHQ\/status\/1818720077555937637\">Harris Faulker, Fox News<\/a>: \u201cWhen you look at JD Vance, is he ready on day one?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201cDoes he what?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faulkner: \u201cReady on day one if he has to be?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump: \u201cI\u2019ve always had great respect for him. And for the other candidates too. But I will say this, and I think this is well documented; Historically, the vice president in terms of the election does not have any impact, I mean virtually no impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/08\/01\/politics\/jd-vance-spotlight-trump-running-mate\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cPrivately, Trump\u2019s campaign acknowledges this isn\u2019t the entrance it envisioned for Vance\u2026 the resurfaced clips have so far generated distractions and have forced Trump himself to defend Vance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ForecasterEnten\/status\/1819010887287488558\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXevMq4zLSsqEPZ293vjSTrMSC0vP6Nm3X8nwxd3OsPIUBfhoiVKNu_EPGl3jWCh4dbvsK9_quY-mL5AmoJsqMpjkL2YUPMTustqjpWK4LBGfO-Rfi1KLP1nSLjheKVLTxkHFgh8HUgaMEATjNo5JZD2B2g?key=LXBDp7lrhYqUgIf6kgEuJw\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:600px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ForecasterEnten\/status\/1819010887287488558\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance refused to commit to certifying election results (again), doubled down on praise of Project 2025 leadership, and suggested repealing the Affordable Care Act would still be a priority for the Trump-Vance ticket.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/trump-2024\/jd-vance-interview-trump\">NOTUS<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Asked if that means he would go so far as to put Trump\u2019s desires above his constitutional authority \u2014 as Pence has said he was asked to do on Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump wanted him to send the election back to the states \u2014 Vance wouldn\u2019t entertain the \u2018hypothetical.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAsked if he regretted his kind words about [the Heritage Foundation], given the political problems Project 2025 is causing for Trump and Republicans, Vance was clear: \u2018No.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018The Heritage Foundation has some good ideas, and also has some ideas that \u2026 I think are bad ideas. And regardless of whether you think they\u2019re good ideas or bad ideas, it has nothing to do with the Trump campaign,\u2019 Vance said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe noted that Project 2025 was a 900-page document, and he was clear that he hadn\u2019t read \u2018the whole thing,\u2019 but he certainly wasn\u2019t about to disavow the entire effort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/trump-2024\/jd-vance-interview-policy-obamacare-border-tax\">NOTUS<\/a>: \u201cVance suggested repealing Obamacare would still be a priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVance said the \u2018repeal and replace efforts\u2019 during Trump\u2019s presidency were \u2018fundamentally focused around the idea of fixing what was broken, not about stripping people\u2019s health care away. So yeah, I think you\u2019re certainly gonna see efforts to reform the system. Obviously, what that looks like will depend a little bit on Congress because Congress has to have a role to play.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance defended his attacks on millions of Americans without children, including calling them \u201csociopathic,\u201d \u201cderanged,\u201d and \u201cpsychotic.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/democrats.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=90379082c3d9e6a03baf3f677&amp;id=6922d00a16&amp;e=c37211b3a8\">ABC15 Arizona<\/a>: \u201cDo you see how [your comments] may have hurt people though?\u201d [&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vance: \u201cI\u2019ve already answered the question\u2026 I am happy to defend what I said because what I said is true\u2026 That\u2019s what I said and I stand by it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/07\/30\/politics\/kfile-jd-vance-history-disparaging-people-without-kids\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s not just \u2018cat ladies\u2019: JD Vance has a history of disparaging people without kids\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRepublican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance has a history of making disparaging remarks toward people without children, a CNN KFile review of his comments shows, including fundraising off his now-infamous \u2018childless cat lady\u2019 remarks in a series of emails that called Democratic leaders \u2018childless sociopath\u2019 who \u2018don\u2019t have a direct stake in this country.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn November 2020, Vance said on a conservative podcast that childless Americans, especially those in the country\u2019s \u2018leadership class,\u2019 were \u2018more sociopathic\u2019 than those with children and made the country \u2018less mentally stable.\u2019<strong> <\/strong>Vance added that the \u2018most deranged\u2019 and \u2018most psychotic\u2019<strong> <\/strong>commentators on Twitter \u2013 now known as X &#8211; were typically childless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/jd-vance-doubles-childless-cat-ladies-dig-got-nothing-cats-rcna163857\">NBC News<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance doubles down on \u2018childless cat ladies\u2019 dig: \u2018I&#8217;ve got nothing against cats\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/patrynard\/status\/1816183353772761538\">Pat Rynard, Courier Newsroom<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance says Americans without children should \u2018face the consequences and the reality\u2019 and not get \u2018nearly the same voice\u2019 in democracy\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/vance-argued-higher-tax-rate-childless-americans-2021\/story?id=112284318\">ABC News<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] suggested that the country needed to \u2018reward the things that we think are good\u2019 and \u2018punish the things that we think are bad\u2019 &#8212; before suggesting that individuals without children should be taxed at a higher rate than those with children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exposed: Vance wrote a \u201cviolent\u201d book foreword for Project 2025 architect Kevin Roberts, saying it\u2019s time to \u201cload the muskets\u201d and calling for a revolution.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/article\/184393\/jd-vance-violent-foreword-kevin-roberts-project-2025-leader-book?utm_campaign=SF_TNR&amp;utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=social\">New Republic<\/a>: \u201cVance has deep ties to the Heritage Foundation, and in particular to Kevin Roberts, who has been president of the right-wing think tank since 2021 and is the architect of Project 2025. Vance has praised Roberts for helping to turn the organization \u2018into the de facto institutional home of Trumpism\u2019 and has endorsed elements of Project 2025. Vance is also the author of the foreword to Roberts\u2019s upcoming book\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut the inspiration for that extreme language can be found in Vance\u2019s foreword, which ends with a call for followers to \u2018circle the wagons and load the muskets,\u2019 and describes Roberts\u2019s ideas as an \u2018essential weapon\u2019 in the \u2018fights that lay ahead.\u2019 \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVance\u2019s foreword is also, notably, a call for revolution. \u2018The old conservative movement argued if you just got government out of the way, natural forces would resolve problems,\u2019 he writes. \u2018We are no longer in this situation and must take a different approach.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/jd-vance-forward-links-trump-to-project-2025_n_66a99246e4b0a3cd43f79073\">HuffPost<\/a>: \u201cAs Trump Runs From Project 2025, JD Vance Links Its Architects Directly To Him\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vance skipped a Senate vote on legislation to support families and expand the child tax credit\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rollcall.com\/2024\/08\/01\/bipartisan-tax-package-blocked-as-senators-head-for-exits\/\">Roll Call<\/a>: \u201cBipartisan tax package blocked as senators head for exits\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFormer President Donald Trump\u2019s running mate JD Vance did not make it back from the campaign trail for the vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDemocrats took aim at Vance, who was in Arizona visiting the southern border on Thursday, for missing the Senate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018When the American people vote in November, they\u2019ll remember that when Vance had a chance to show up for working families, he was nowhere to be found,\u2019 Democratic National Committee spokesperson Aida Ross said in a statement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2026so he could visit the southern border after caving to Trump by voting to kill the toughest, fairest bipartisan border security bill in decades.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/video\/6353392217112\">JD Vance<\/a>: \u201c[The bipartisan border security bill] does nothing to secure the border.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/border-immigration-senate-vote-924f48912eecf1dc544dc648d757c3fe\">May 2024<\/a>: Vance voted against advancing the bipartisan border security deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2024\/2\/7\/24064001\/border-crisis-immigration-reality-explained-mayorkas-impeachment\">Vox<\/a>: \u201cTrump made this clear when he reportedly urged Republicans in Congress to turn against the bipartisan Senate border security bill scheduled for a vote Wednesday so that he could keep the issue alive through the presidential election. His supporters have largely fallen in line.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/02\/06\/politics\/republican-opposition-senate-border-bill\/index.html\">CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump, who is hoping to make immigration a key plank of his presidential campaign, has suggested on Truth Social that approving additional resources for the border would make Republicans \u2018look bad.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This week, another one of Trump\u2019s draconian abortion bans took effect in Iowa, stripping lifesaving reproductive health care from millions of women across the Midwest.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/iowa-can-enforce-six-week-abortion-ban-states-top-court-rules-2024-06-28\/\">Reuters<\/a>: \u201cIowa, like other Republican-controlled states, moved to ban abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court&#8217;s 2022 ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/07\/25\/iowa-abortion-ban-6-weeks-takes-effect\">Axios<\/a>: \u201cIowa\u2019s abortion ban, one of the nation\u2019s strictest, takes effect\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/democrats.us2.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=90379082c3d9e6a03baf3f677&amp;id=ebe637d45a&amp;e=a65c3dee94\">Iowa Public Radio<\/a>: \u201cThe law is set to go into effect July 29. Planned Parenthood estimates it will block nearly all abortions in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen it does, it will likely affect abortion access not only in Iowa, but in the entire Midwest region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/07\/26\/iowa-abortion-ban-takes-effect\/\">Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cIowa abortion ban taking effect as residents flee out of state for care\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReproductive care groups in neighboring states where the procedure remains legal are already seeing an influx of patients from Iowa. The Chicago Abortion Fund received more than 60 support requests from Iowa residents during the first three weeks of July, a 165 percent increase over previous months.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump ally and Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins said the RNC platform \u201cabsolutely\u201d paves the way for a national abortion ban and that&nbsp; Trump\u2019s allies want \u201cno abortions in any state.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/29\/opinion\/kristan-hawkins-abortion-republicans-trump.html\">Jane Coaston, New York Times<\/a>: \u201cMy last question is a yes or no question, which is challenging, but let\u2019s see if we can do it. Does the 2024 Republican National Committee platform get you closer to your goal of abolishing abortion and making it \u2018illegal and unthinkable?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kristan Hawkins:<strong> <\/strong>\u201cYes, absolutely. The 14th Amendment is in there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawkins: \u201cWe have said from the very beginning, even when we were suffering under the tyranny of Roe v. Wade, that the ultimate goal of the pro-life movement is to see no abortions in any state and women and families served and protected from the predatory abortion industry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawkins: \u201cWe were pleased to see that the 14th Amendment was actually in the platform \u2014 that took some education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coaston: \u201cAs the Republican Party seems to set aside discussing the idea of a national abortion ban, is the long-term goal to get that 14th Amendment Supreme Court opinion?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawkins: \u201cYeah. I don\u2019t think that has been a hidden agenda at all within the pro-life movement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hawkins also railed against exceptions in abortion bans and pledged to continue pushing for a ban on medication abortion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/29\/opinion\/kristan-hawkins-abortion-republicans-trump.html\">Hawkins<\/a>: \u201cThe Supreme Court did not say chemical abortions are good to go.<strong> <\/strong>They said the case had not been handled correctly, and they didn\u2019t feel that the plaintiffs were the ones that could bring the suit.
