Ahead of Donald Trump\u2019s <\/em>keynote address<\/em><\/a> at the Moms for Liberty Summit tonight, <\/em>DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump is campaigning with a group of far-right Project 2025 extremists so focused on gutting public education that their spokesperson called for a \u2018mass exodus from the public school system.\u2019 Moms for Liberty isn\u2019t just leading the charge to ban books and attack kids across the country \u2013 they also have ties to the Trump-Vance ticket\u2019s Project 2025 agenda to defund public schools, eliminate the Department of Education, and hurt students. American families know public education is a cornerstone of our democracy, and they won\u2019t let Trump and Vance take it away.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump is speaking to Moms for Liberty tonight, an extreme Project 2025 group focused on undermining public education and banning books in schools around the country. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newsweek<\/a>: \u201cProject 2025: Full List of Organizations Behind Proposals\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMoms for Liberty\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cMoms for Liberty, founded in early 2021 by conservative women in Florida, has quickly expanded its presence across the country. It has landed national media attention for its efforts \u2014 sometimes successful \u2014 to fight COVID safety measures in schools, ban books, limit discussion about race and LGBTQ identities and populate local school boards with conservatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRecent NPR\/Ipsos polling finds, however, that most Americans, including nearly half of Republicans, oppose banning certain books in schools \u2014 a central campaign for Moms for Liberty.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Matters<\/a>: \u201cWith over 200 chapters, Moms for Liberty has become the largest driver of the nationwide book banning crusade, which has led to harassment and threats against public school teachers, librarians, and education officials.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>: \u201cThe national group has led culture-war crusades against school boards, pushing to ban books it deems pornographic from libraries and accusing teachers of seeking to indoctrinate students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


<\/strong>The group\u2019s spokesperson even called for a \u201cmass exodus from the public school system\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABC13<\/a>: \u201cThe spokeswoman for Moms for Liberty, who called for a \u2018mass exodus from the public school system,\u2019 explained to The National Desk Wednesday night why her idea is \u2018very realistic.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moms for Liberty has close ties to the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank that is leading Project 2025 and whose leaders are allies of Trump and JD Vance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Matters<\/a>: \u201cMoms for Liberty also appears to be affiliated with \u2014 or at least a frequent promoter of \u2014 the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing Koch-funded think tank with a history of attempting to influence public education. […]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe \u2018resources for parents\u2019 page on Moms for Liberty\u2019s website is almost exclusively composed of links to the Heritage Foundation.<\/strong> The page first directs parents to a \u2018Heritage Action for America\u2019 guide to filing an open records request. Next, the page directs parents to the Leadership Institute — an organization run by Morton Blackwell, who received the Heritage Foundation\u2019s \u2018Titan of Conservatism Award.\u2019 The Heritage Foundation\u2019s website is listed as the next resource. After that, the Heritage Foundation\u2019s guide to the Constitution is listed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBS<\/a>: \u201cThe conservative Heritage Foundation\u2019s 2022 tax filing shows it gave Moms for Liberty $25,000 when it awarded the group its annual Salvatori Prize for Citizenship. And the Leadership Institute, which has trained conservative politicians from former Vice President Mike Pence to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, said on its website that it was the top sponsor for Moms for Liberty\u2019s 2022 national summit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTrump took a private flight with Project 2025 leader in 2022\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018They\u2019re going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do,\u2019 Trump said.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Republic<\/a>: \u201cProject 2025 Leader Is Overjoyed by Trump\u2019s Vice Presidential Pick\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nick Corasaniti, New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[Roberts] reacted to the news [of Vance\u2019s VP selection] \u2018with a broad smile on my face\u2019 and said that \u2018privately, we were really rooting for him.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vox<\/a>: \u201cKevin Roberts, the president of the right-wing Heritage Foundation and the driving force behind Project 2025, told Ward that \u2018[Vance] is absolutely going to be one of the leaders \u2014 if not the leader \u2014 of our movement.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025 is \u201cundeniably a Trump-driven operation\u201d working on a blueprint for Trump and Vance to hurt students by eliminating the Department of Education, defunding public schools, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025, p. 319<\/a>: \u201cFederal education policy should be limited and, ultimately, the federal Department of Education should be eliminated.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c…every parent should have the option to direct his or her child\u2019s share of education funding through an education savings account (ESA), funded overwhelmingly by state and local taxpayers\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project 2025, p. 331<\/a>: \u201cThe new Administration must take immediate steps to rescind the new requirements and lessen the federal restrictions on charter schools.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most powerful architects is Stephen Miller, a top West Wing adviser for the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump claims not to know who is behind Project 2025. A CNN review found at least 140 people who worked for him are involved\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cMany of the authors of the blueprint are former Trump officials, and the Heritage Foundation has spent the past year-plus recruiting people to implement the plans within the administration<\/strong>, Scott said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
