In response to <\/em>new reporting<\/em><\/a> on Donald Trump\u2019s golf club twice hosting a convicted January 6 rioter and alleged Nazi sympathizer, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump already disqualified himself when he rallied a mob on January 6 to storm the Capitol \u2013 injuring over 140 police officers \u2013 and now he\u2019s continuing to show he is unfit for office by tying himself to violent extremists and white nationalists. Trump is a sore loser who has shown no remorse for his attacks on our democracy \u2013 instead, he\u2019s doubling down with promises to pardon violent insurrectionists, threats to go after his political opponents, and never-ending election denial lies. Trump lost in 2020 because of his MAGA extremism, and he will lose again this November when the American people choose to stand with democracy and freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Donald Trump\u2019s golf club hosted a convicted January 6 rioter and alleged Nazi sympathizer at two events this summer \u2013 including an event that was personally endorsed by Trump himself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cTrump\u2019s Bedminster club hosted an alleged Nazi sympathizer who stormed the Capitol\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwice this past summer, Donald Trump\u2019s golf club in Bedminster, N.J. has featured speeches from a rioter convicted of participating in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, who has a well-documented history of extreme antisemitic and racist rants.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne of those events \u2014 a fundraiser for a controversial nonprofit group that supports Capitol riot defendants \u2014 was personally endorsed by Trump himself<\/strong> in a video message that was played for the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018All of the people there, you\u2019re amazing patriots,\u2019 Trump said in the video.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs part of his criminal case over Jan. 6, federal prosecutors described the rioter, Timothy Hale-Cusanelli, as a \u2018white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer,\u2019<\/strong> who told his coworkers at a naval weapons station that \u2018Hitler should have finished the job\u2019 and \u2018babies born with any deformities or disabilities should be shot in the forehead.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCourt filings featured multiple pictures of Hale-Cusanelli at work with a \u2018Hitler mustache.\u2019 A lengthy online video he posted in 2020 attacked what he called a \u2018Hasidic Jewish invasion\u2019 of New Jersey and compared orthodox Jews to a \u2018plague of locusts.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has repeatedly endorsed the nonprofit Patriot Freedom Project, a group founded in direct response to Hale-Cusanelli\u2019s arrest.<\/strong> The group\u2019s founder, Cynthia Hughes, calls herself an \u2018adoptive aunt\u2019 to Hale-Cusanelli and spoke about his case at a Trump campaign rally. In 2023, Trump spoke at another Patriot Freedom Project event at Bedminster alongside Hughes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has been linked to antisemitic extremists before. <\/strong>In 2022, the former president had dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate with Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist and Holocaust denier, who used a bullhorn to urge Trump supporters on Jan. 6 to \u2018break down the barriers and disregard the police\u2019 \u2026 Trump told the extremist group the Proud Boys, whose founder has a history of antisemitic remarks, to \u2018stand back and stand by\u2019 at a 2020 presidential debate. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump initially declined to disavow an endorsement from David Duke, a former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has made support for the Jan. 6 defendants a central plank of his 2024 presidential campaign.<\/strong> His first official campaign rally opened with a rendition of \u2018The Star-Spangled Banner\u2019 sung by Jan. 6 defendants in jail. He has referred to the defendants as \u2018patriots\u2019 and \u2018hostages,\u2019 and promised to issue pardons to convicted rioters, including those who assaulted police officers. Approximately 140 officers were injured in the attack on the Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump continues to celebrate and promise pardons for January 6 insurrectionists, who he calls \u201chostages\u201d and \u201cpatriots\u201d…<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MSNBC<\/a>: \u201cTrump vows to pardon Jan. 6 defendants on \u2018Day One\u2019 if he wins the presidential election\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rachel Scott, ABC News<\/a>: \u201c140 police officers were assaulted [on January 6].<\/strong> Their injuries included broken bones, at least one officer lost an eye, one had two cracked ribs, two smashed spinal discs, another had a stroke. Were the people who assaulted those 140 officers, including those I just mentioned, \u2018patriots\u2019 who deserve pardons?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Trump refuses to answer]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott: \u201cBut sir, my question is on those rioters who assaulted officers. Would you pardon those people?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump: \u201cOh absolutely I would. <\/strong>If they\u2019re innocent, I would pardon them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott: \u201cThey\u2019ve been convicted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThose people were treated very harshly \u2026 nobody was killed on January 6. But I think that the people of January 6 were treated very unfairly <\/strong>\u2026 they were there to complain about an election, and you know it\u2019s very interesting, the biggest crowd I\u2019ve ever spoken to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cTrump describes imprisoned Jan. 6 rioters as \u2018hostages\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIME<\/a>: \u201cTrump has sought to recast the insurrectionist riot as an act of patriotism. \u2018I call them the J-6 patriots,\u2019<\/strong> Trump tells TIME. When asked whether he would consider pardoning every one of them, he says: \u2018Yes, absolutely.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Donald Trump promised Wednesday night that if he is elected he will pardon a \u2018large portion\u2019 of the people convicted of federal offenses for their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cJanuary 6, it was the largest crowd I\u2019ve ever spoken to. And they were there proud, they were there with love in their heart. That was an unbelievable \u2014 and it was a beautiful day.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026 while his running mate JD Vance downplays the violence on January 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance says he is \u2018skeptical\u2019 Pence\u2019s life was in danger on Jan. 6\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] downplayed the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol<\/strong>, when Pence was forced to evacuate the building as rioters called for his hanging.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is still pushing lies about his loss by over 7 million votes in the 2020 election. Vance is right there with him \u2013 they are both casting doubt on this November\u2019s results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[Trump] <\/strong>has baselessly and publicly cast doubt about the fairness of the 2024 election about once a day, on average, since he announced his candidacy for president.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201c[Trump] is flooding the airwaves and his social media platform with distortions, misinformation and unfounded conspiracy theories about his defeat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cRe-litigating the 2020 election, repeating false claims it was stolen and casting aspersions on the security of mail voting remain major fixtures for [Trump] on the stump.<\/strong> \u2026 He regularly refers to the 2020 election as \u2018rigged\u2019 on his social media channels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HuffPost<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] said he would accept a Biden win only if he considered the election to be legitimate. \u2026 Vance\u2019s comments illustrate a new tactic by Republican lawmakers, who are now placing conditions on accepting election results.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it would\u2019ve been a much better thing for the country. \u2026 [Trump] was trying to take a constitutional process to its natural conclusion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it would\u2019ve been extraordinarily disappointing to a whole host of people that I care a lot about if Trump had just taken it [and conceded the 2020 election before January 6].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cNo real Republican with any credibility in the party is still blaming [Trump for January 6].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is seeking power to go after his opponents \u2014 as he is vowing to be a dictator on \u201cday one,\u201d won\u2019t stop echoing dictators, and has warned of a \u201cbloodbath\u201d if he loses in November.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
