Today, JD Vance is campaigning in North Carolina after refusing to answer questions on <\/em>reporting<\/em><\/a> about Donald Trump-endorsed NC gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson. In response,<\/em> DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s both shameful and unsurprising that JD Vance still won\u2019t condemn the horrifying comments from Mark Robinson uncovered in recent reporting. By dodging questions and piling up excuses, Vance is making clear that doubling down on a toxic and off-putting brand of MAGA extremism is more important to the Trump-Vance ticket than condemning a self-described \u2018Nazi\u2019 whose senior staff<\/a> has already quit his campaign. Voters in North Carolina and across the country will not stand for this kind of offensive and hateful behavior \u2014 even if Trump and Vance will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance refused multiple times to answer for or condemn Mark Robinson\u2019s behavior after new bombshell reporting on Robinson\u2019s hateful, extreme rhetoric.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauren Mayk, WCAU<\/a>: \u201cSome news I wanted to talk about out of North Carolina with Mark Robinson. I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard about it. Governor Walz is also in this area, he just mentioned it at a rally this afternoon. I don\u2019t know that you\u2019ve gotten a chance to talk about it, so I wanted to ask you, are you comfortable with Mark Robinson as the Republican nominee for governor in North Carolina?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance: \u201cWell, look, the allegations are pretty far out there of course, but I know that allegations aren\u2019t necessarily reality<\/strong>, and what I\u2019d say is, it\u2019s ultimately up to Mark Robinson and North Carolina whether he\u2019s going to be their governor and whether he wants to stay in the race. Robinson has a long and shameful history of spewing hate, lies, and conspiracy theories. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

News & Observer<\/a>: \u201c\u2018Yeah, I said that.\u2019 Mark Robinson embraced Trump\u2019s false claims on 2020 election\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[Trump] continues to push false claims about the election, and an audio recording obtained by The News & Observer shows Robinson has embraced those claims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRobinson, who has endorsed Trump, said in a speech at a church in 2021 that Biden \u2018stole the election,\u2019<\/strong> the recording shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charlotte Observer<\/a>: \u201cRobinson said he owns AR-15s, a type of semiautomatic assault rifle, so he can fight back \u2018in case the government gets too big for its britches.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robinson<\/a>: “When the chips are down, when the FBI is knocking on my door, will I cower, will I comply, or will I stand up and fight? Folks, it’s time to stand up and fight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNorth Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has said it himself: He\u2019s a conspiracy theorist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRobinson, who is the state\u2019s lieutenant governor, has said he \u2018wouldn\u2019t be surprised\u2019 if the 1969 moon landing was fake and the 9\/11 terrorist attacks were an \u2018inside job.\u2019 He\u2019s \u2018SERIOUSLY skeptical\u2019 of President John F. Kennedy\u2019s assassination and of the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. He falsely accused David Hogg, a survivor of the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, of being a paid actor. He\u2019s claimed that climate change is based on \u2018junk science.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WRAL<\/a>: \u201cRobinson said this Sunday during a church service outside Charlotte that God created him specifically to fight against the push for LGBTQ rights and visibility, which he says is turning America into a \u2018hellhole.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018I was not crafted to be Mr. Nicey-Nice,\u2019 Robinson said. \u2018… God formed me because he knew there was going to be a time when God\u2019s learning was going to be intolerable to the wicked. When children were going to be dragged down to go see the drag show. When pornography was going to be presented to our children in schools.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLater on, he also slammed Christian churches that are accepting toward gay and lesbian people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Makes me sick every time I see it \u2014 a church that flies that Rainbow flag, which is a direct spit in the face of God almighty,\u2019 he said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking Points Memo<\/a>: \u201cIn particular, the Black community has been a major target for Robinson. In various posts over the years he referred to Black people as \u2018muddle headed negroes,\u2019 \u2018apes,\u2019 and \u2018a monkey.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018February is Black History Month. I guess the shortest month of the year is all we need to learn about the separate but equal history of a people who have achieved so little,\u2019 Robinson wrote in 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jewish Insider<\/a>: \u201cLast fall, Raleigh\u2019s News & Observer unearthed an interview in which Robinson spoke with a fringe pastor, Sean Moon, who claimed that the modern incarnation of the four horsemen of the apocalypse includes China, the CIA, Islam and the Rothschild family of \u2018international bankers that rule every single national or federal reserve-type style of central bank in every single country.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRather than objecting to the blatantly antisemitic conspiracy theory, Robinson grunted along in agreement. \u2018That\u2019s exactly right,\u2019 he said.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robinson is an anti-choice extremist who has said a pregnant woman\u2019s body isn\u2019t hers anymore, railed against exceptions for rape or incest, and thrown his support behind banning abortion before many women even know they\u2019re pregnant. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WGHP<\/a>: \u201c[Robinson said] that if he had the authority, abortion would be completely illegal in the state. \u2026 \u2018If I had all the power right now, say I was the governor and had a willing legislature, we could pass a bill right now that says you can\u2019t get an abortion in North Carolina for any reason. \u2026 I\u2019d love to pass a law. I\u2019d love to see a heartbeat bill proposed in our legislature.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cardinal & Pine<\/a>: \u201cRobinson is on the record calling abortion \u2018murder,\u2019 and has asserted that once a woman is pregnant \u2018it\u2019s not [her] body anymore.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade last year, Robinson said in a statement that he was \u2018overjoyed\u2019 by the decision and that he had been \u2018praying\u2019 for such a thing to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
