In response to <\/em>new reporting from CNN revealing posts<\/em><\/a> shared by Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita on Trump\u2019s reckless lies that led to the January 6 \u201cinsurrection,\u201d <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose closest to Donald Trump know that he was responsible for inspiring a mob to attack the Capitol and try to overturn an election he knew he lost \u2013 and new reporting shows that list appears to include his own campaign manager. Just like his VP pick JD Vance, Trump\u2019s campaign manager Chris LaCivita was once willing to speak the truth about how dangerous Trump is. Trump\u2019s core campaign team might\u2019ve lost their backbone, but the American people haven\u2019t \u2013 they\u2019ll reject Trump for good this November.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Donald Trump\u2019s campaign manager shared posts that January 6 was an \u201cinsurrection\u201d based on \u201ca lie that Trump told.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cIn a series of reposts on X \u2013 formerly Twitter \u2013 LaCivita shared comments calling January 6 an \u2018insurrection\u2019 that was fueled by Trump\u2019s baseless election lies. Some of those posts have since been deleted from LaCivita\u2019s feed, but CNN was able to review them on the Internet Archive WayBack Machine, which archives internet webpages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn January 6, 2021, LaCivita reposted several posts that harshly condemned Trump, suggesting that even some of his closest allies once viewed the deadly outcome as a direct result of Trump\u2019s lies. […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLaCivita\u2019s shared posts included a statement on January 6 from former President George W. Bush, who expressed \u2018disbelief and dismay\u2019 at the violent assault on the Capitol, calling it \u2018a sickening and heartbreaking sight.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u201cI am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement,\u2019 read the statement by Bush that LaCivita shared. \u2018The violent assault on the Capitol \u2013 and disruption of a Constitutionally-mandated meeting of Congress \u2013 was undertaken by people whose passions have been inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes.\u2019 […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother post shared by LaCivita was a stark message from a Republican Senate aide, which John McCormack, then a reporter for the conservative magazine National Review, shared on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cText message from a GOP Senate aide: \u2018This is a disgusting tragedy. Someone literally lost their life because of a lie that Trump told, Cruz\/Hawley capitalized on, and fringe media echoed. This is in no way shape or form sustainable.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother since-removed post from LaCivita\u2019s feed included a comment calling those who stormed the Capitol \u2018thugs.\u2019 The comment from a GOP political staffer linked to a CNN tweet reading, \u2018Pro-Trump protesters have stormed the US Capitol, where members of Congress were meeting to certify President-elect Joe Biden\u2019s win.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018They are not protestors. They are thugs,\u2019 the post read.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump previously gushed over the violent insurrection he rallied on January 6, praising it as a \u201cday of love.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump<\/a>: \u201cNothing done wrong at all. Nothing done wrong. […] That was a day of love.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump \u2014 who has previously called January 6 a \u201cbeautiful day\u201d \u2014 continues to praise and promise pardons for the rioters, who he calls \u201chostages\u201d and \u201cpatriots\u201d that were \u201ctreated very unfairly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cJanuary 6, it was the largest crowd I\u2019ve ever spoken to. And they were there proud, they were there with love in their heart. That was an unbelievable \u2014 and it was a beautiful day.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rachel Scott, ABC News<\/a>: \u201c140 police officers were assaulted [on January 6].<\/strong> Their injuries included broken bones, at least one officer lost an eye, one had two cracked ribs, two smashed spinal discs, another had a stroke. Were the people who assaulted those 140 officers, including those I just mentioned, \u2018patriots\u2019 who deserve pardons?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[Trump refuses to answer]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott: \u201cBut sir, my question is on those rioters who assaulted officers. Would you pardon those people?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cOh absolutely I would. <\/strong>If they\u2019re innocent, I would pardon them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott: \u201cThey\u2019ve been convicted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cTrump describes imprisoned Jan. 6 rioters as \u2018hostages\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThose people were treated very harshly [\u2026] nobody was killed on January 6. But I think that the people on January 6 were treated very unfairly<\/strong> [\u2026] they were there to complain about an election, and you know it\u2019s very interesting, the biggest crowd I\u2019ve ever spoken to.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cTrump vows pardons, government apology to Capitol rioters if elected\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIME<\/a>: \u201cTrump has sought to recast the insurrectionist riot as an act of patriotism. \u2018I call them the J-6 patriots,\u2019 Trump tells TIME. When asked whether he would consider pardoning every one of them, he says: \u2018Yes, absolutely.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cFormer President Donald Trump promised Wednesday night that if he is elected he will pardon a \u2018large portion\u2019 of the people convicted of federal offenses for their participation in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance continues to downplay the violence on January 6, even saying Trump \u201chad every right\u201d to encourage the mob that stormed the Capitol \u2013 which he says was \u201cnot on [Trump].\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

JD Vance<\/a>: \u201c[Donald Trump], of course, he had every right to encourage people to protest peacefully, and the fact that a few knuckleheads went off and did something they shouldn\u2019t do, that\u2019s not on him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cJD Vance says he is \u2018skeptical\u2019 Pence\u2019s life was in danger on Jan. 6\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] downplayed the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol<\/strong>, when Pence was forced to evacuate the building as rioters called for his hanging.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump, who is vowing to be a dictator on \u201cday one,\u201d told voters they \u201cwon\u2019t have to vote anymore\u201d if he\u2019s elected president. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Atlantic<\/a>: \u201cTrump Says He\u2019ll Be a Dictator on \u2018Day One\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cYou won\u2019t have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what \u2013 it will be fixed, it will be fine. You won\u2019t have to vote anymore.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump is still pushing lies about his loss by over 7 million votes in the 2020 election. Vance is right there with him, even refusing to commit to accepting this November\u2019s results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201c[Trump] is flooding the airwaves and his social media platform with distortions, misinformation and unfounded conspiracy theories about his defeat.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cRe-litigating the 2020 election, repeating false claims it was stolen and casting aspersions on the security of mail voting remain major fixtures for [Trump] on the stump.<\/strong> [\u2026] He regularly refers to the 2020 election as \u2018rigged\u2019 on his social media channels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HuffPost<\/a>: \u201c[Vance] said he would accept a Biden win only if he considered the election to be legitimate. [\u2026] Vance\u2019s comments illustrate a new tactic by Republican lawmakers, who are now placing conditions on accepting election results.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vance<\/a>: \u201cI think the entire post-2020 thing would have gone a lot better if there had actually been an effort to provide alternative slates of electors<\/strong>, and to force us to have that debate. I think it would\u2019ve been a much better thing for the country. [\u2026] [Trump] was trying to take a constitutional process to its natural conclusion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
