This weekend, Donald Trump <\/em>confirmed<\/em><\/a> that he\u2019s ready to repeal the Affordable Care Act and gut protections for millions of Americans \u2014 a <\/em>wildly unpopular<\/em><\/a> goal that he tried and failed to achieve in his first term. But new reporting shows ACA approval is near an all-time high, with the majority of Americans supporting access to quality, affordable health care and disagreeing with Trump\u2019s toxic vision to gut health care access.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New polling showed the majority of Americans approve of the Affordable Care Act and think the government has a \u201cresponsibility to ensure all Americans have healthcare coverage.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gallup<\/a>: \u201cSixty-two percent of U.S. adults, the highest percentage in more than a decade, say it is the federal government\u2019s responsibility to ensure all Americans have healthcare coverage.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFifty-four percent of U.S. adults approve of the ACA,<\/strong> essentially tying the record-high 55% readings in April 2017 (during Republican-led attempts to repeal the law) and November 2020 (after Joe Biden won election as president).\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump doubled down this weekend on his extreme agenda to repeal the ACA and threaten protections for over 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSir, you said during the campaign, you have concepts of a plan. Do you have an actual plan at this point for health care?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cYes. We have concepts of a plan that would be better.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cStill just concepts? Do you have a fully developed plan?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cLet me explain. We have the biggest health care companies looking at it. We have doctors. We’re always looking because Obamacare stinks.<\/strong> It’s lousy. There are better answers. If we come up with a better answer,<\/strong> I would present that answer to Democrats and to everybody else, and I\u2019d do something about it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectrum News<\/a>: \u201cThe ACA protects more than 100 million people with preexisting conditions from being denied care, plus it requires insurance plans to cover things like preventive care and limit out-of-pocket costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After coming up just one vote short of repealing the ACA when he was in office, Trump spent his campaign pledging repeal in a second term. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama\u2019s signature health law.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cOn the campaign trail, Trump has doubled down on his promise to repeal the ACA, a feat he fell one vote short of in 2017.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cThe cost of Obamacare is out of control, plus, it\u2019s not good Healthcare. I\u2019m seriously looking at alternatives. We had a couple of Republican Senators who campaigned for 6 years against it, and then raised their hands not to terminate it. It was a low point for the Republican Party, but we should never give up!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cObamacare is a disaster. And I said, \u2018We’re gonna do something about it.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
