In response to Donald Trump tapping Ed Martin to be Chief of Staff at the Office of Management and Budget, <\/em>DNC Senior Spokesperson Hannah Muldavin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump has spent years threatening doctors with jail time for providing abortion care after overturning Roe v. Wade<\/em> \u2013 so it comes as no surprise that his Project 2025-tied pick to help run OMB has the same extreme anti-choice record. Democrats are ready to stand up against the wildly out-of-touch and dangerous Project 2025 hardliners Trump is trying to staff his administration with, and will fight back against their all-out assault on our basic rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Donald Trump taps Ed Martin, an extreme anti-choice hardliner who advocated for a national abortion ban without exceptions and proposed criminalizing women and doctors for abortions, to be Chief of Staff at OMB. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cPresident-elect Donald Trump has chosen Ed Martin<\/strong>, a hardline, socially conservative activist and commentator, to serve as the next chief of staff at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)<\/strong>. […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMartin has publicly advocated for a national abortion ban without exceptions <\/strong>for rape or incest and has raised imposing criminal penalties on women and doctors involved in abortions.<\/strong> […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018If you ban abortion in Louisiana, is a doctor who has an abortion breaking the law? Yes. Should he be punished? Yes \u2013 I think that seems obvious. <\/strong>What is the punishment? Not sure yet. Could be criminal, could be a jail sentence<\/strong>, I suppose,\u2019 [Martin] said. […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMartin has also opposed exceptions for abortions to save the life of the mother<\/strong>, calling it \u2018an absolute scientific fact that no abortion is ever performed to save the life of the mother.<\/strong> None, zero, zilch.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ed Martin is an election denier who helped organize and finance the \u201cstop the steal\u201d movement to overturn the 2020 election and previously worked closely with the \u201cchief architect\u201d of Project 2025, Russ Vought, who is set to be his boss.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cMr. Martin will work under Russell Vought<\/strong>, a close ally of Mr. Trump\u2019s who ran O.M.B. for part of his first administration. […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Vought was one of the influential figures behind Project 2025,<\/strong> the blueprint that the Heritage Foundation and other conservative groups have mapped for the Trump administration. […]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMr. Martin worked with Mr. Vought on the Republican National Committee\u2019s new policy platform<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBS<\/a>: \u201cA chief architect of Project 2025<\/strong> \u2014 the controversial conservative blueprint to remake the federal government \u2014 Vought<\/strong> is likely to be appointed to a high-ranking post in a second Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cEd Martin, <\/strong>who was hired by the RNC in May, pushed to overturn Donald Trump\u2019s 2020 loss and marched outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. <\/strong>[…]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn the morning of Jan. 6, Martin attended Trump\u2019s speech near the White House before joining the crowd in marching to the Capitol and posting about it on social media. <\/strong>[…]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLater in 2021, Martin was subpoenaed by the House\u2019s Jan. 6 committee, which said it had evidence that he was \u2018involved in the logistical planning\u2019 of the \u2018Stop the Steal\u2019 rally on Jan. 6<\/strong>, where Trump encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol. The committee said it also had evidence that Martin \u2018paid costs associated with vendors hired for that event.\u2019<\/strong> He did not show up for a deposition with the committee in February 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump paved the way for the draconian abortion bans Martin advocates for when he \u201cproudly\u201d overturned <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, calling it an \u201cincredible\u201d thing.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cI was proudly the person responsible for the ending of \u2026 <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cFor 54 years they were trying to get <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> terminated, and I did it, and I\u2019m proud to have done it. \u2026 Nobody else was going to get that done but me<\/strong>, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cAfter 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong>, much to the \u2018shock\u2019 of everyone \u2026 Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to.<\/strong> Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump<\/a>: \u201cGetting rid of <\/strong>Roe v. Wade<\/em><\/strong> was an incredible thing<\/strong> for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing, being stuck in Roe v. Wade<\/em>, to negotiate with. \u2026 And look, everybody that was president wanted to get rid and tried to get rid of Roe v. Wade<\/em> … For fifty years, this has been going on. I was able to do it, and I was very honored to do it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump and his Project 2025 allies are pushing a dangerous Project 2025 agenda that would ban abortion nationwide, threaten access to IVF and contraception, and rip away reproductive freedoms.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
