In response to Donald Trump rolling back Biden-Harris administration efforts to protect the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid, <\/em>DNC Rapid Response Director Alex Floyd released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s immediate priority as president is ripping away affordable health care coverage for tens of millions of Americans and screwing over people with preexisting conditions. Thanks to the Biden-Harris administration, more Americans have health coverage than ever before, and Trump wants to unwind this progress even though the American people overwhelmingly support<\/a> the ACA. Trump\u2019s plans will do nothing but raise costs and make Americans sicker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW: Donald Trump signed an executive order rescinding the Biden-Harris administration\u2019s protections for the ACA and Medicaid \u2013 on top of rescinding a Biden-Harris order to lower drug costs.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

White House<\/a>: \u201cThe following executive actions are hereby revoked:<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExecutive Order 14009 of January 28, 2021 (Strengthening Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act). \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExecutive Order 14087 of October 14, 2022 (Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans).\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services<\/a>: \u201cExecutive Order 14009 in 2021 established the policy objective to protect and strengthen Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and to make high-quality health care accessible and affordable for every American.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services<\/a>: \u201cPresident Biden issued Executive Order (EO) 14087<\/strong>, \u2018Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans,\u2019 to further address prescription drug affordability<\/strong> through the work of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services\u2019 (CMS) Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (the Innovation Center). The Innovation Center tests innovative payment and service delivery models designed to reduce program expenditures while preserving or enhancing the quality of care furnished to its beneficiaries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has doubled down on his extreme agenda to repeal the ACA, which would gut protections for over 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kristen Welker, NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSir, you said during the campaign, you have concepts of a plan. Do you have an actual plan at this point for health care?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cYes. We have concepts of a plan that would be better.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welker: \u201cStill just concepts? Do you have a fully developed plan?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump: \u201cLet me explain. We have the biggest health care companies looking at it. We have doctors. We\u2019re always looking because Obamacare stinks.<\/strong> It’s lousy. There are better answers. If we come up with a better answer,<\/strong> I would present that answer to Democrats and to everybody else, and I\u2019d do something about it.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spectrum News<\/a>: \u201cThe ACA protects more than 100 million people with preexisting conditions from being denied care, plus it requires insurance plans to cover things like preventive care and limit out-of-pocket costs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After coming up just one vote short of repealing the ACA in his first term, Trump spent his campaign pledging to repeal it when he returned to the White House.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cTrump approved a surprise decision to push for the complete elimination of the Affordable Care Act in the courts. If it succeeds, millions of Americans will lose their private insurance or Medicaid coverage and the health care system would be thrown into chaos.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPR<\/a>: \u201cThe very day President Trump was sworn in \u2014 Jan. 20, 2017 \u2014 he signed an executive order instructing administration officials \u2018to waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay\u2019 implementing parts of the Affordable Care Act, while Congress got ready to repeal and replace President Obama\u2019s signature health law.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Magazine<\/a>: \u201cVance: Trump\u2019s Health-Care Plan Is to Let Insurers Charge More for Preexisting Conditions\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat Vance came up with is not only surprising but, if understood properly, far more damaging than Trump\u2019s original statement. The Trump plan, according to Vance, is to permit insurance companies to discriminate against people with preexisting conditions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMINDER: Trump said that \u201cthere is a lot you can do\u201d to cut Medicare and Medicaid \u2013 programs that millions of American families rely on.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
