As Donald Trump enters his first week in office with nomination picks like Russ Vought<\/a> flying through the Senate confirmation process, he\u2019s made his plans clear from the start: he will screw over Americans at every turn in order to benefit himself and his billionaire friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s clear Donald Trump will screw over Americans by doubling down on his Project 2025 agenda through cutting Social Security \u2014 and appointing Project 2025\u2019s chief architect to help him do it. DNC Senior Spokesperson Hannah Muldavin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump has a long and shameful history of threatening hard-earned benefits like Social Security \u2014 and with help from returning OMB director and Project 2025 architect Russ Vought, he\u2019ll do so again. Trump will screw over Americans \u2014 threatening to rip away the Social Security benefits they earned while continuing to protect billionaires\u2019 bottom lines. While Trump tries to scam Americans out of their hard-earned benefits, Democrats won\u2019t stop fighting to protect access to Social Security and every critical program hardworking Americans rely on.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Day One of his presidency, Trump took immediate action to install billionaire Elon Musk\u2019s task force at the White House \u2014 setting up efforts to put hard-earned benefits like Social Security on the chopping block. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo eliminate a third of the government, you would have to dramatically eliminate full functions of the federal government,\u2019 said Brian Riedl, a senior fellow at the right-leaning Manhattan Institute. \u2018You would have to dramatically scale back programs like Social Security,<\/strong> Medicare and defense and veterans.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s returning OMB director Russ Vought, who is slated to soon be voted out of committee for Senate confirmation, repeatedly pushed cuts to Social Security in Trump\u2019s first term \u2014 and will shape Trump\u2019s agenda again. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Russell Vought, a Project 2025 architect, to lead the White House budget office was seen as further evidence of the threat the incoming administration poses to Social Security,<\/strong> Medicare, and other critical government programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVought, who currently heads the far-right think tank Center for Renewing America think tank, served as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) during Trump’s first term, and he’s set to return to the post after playing a central role in crafting the Project 2025 agenda<\/strong> that the Republican president-elect attempted to disavow on the campaign trail.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With help from Vought, Trump proposed slashing Social Security in <\/strong>every single one <\/em><\/strong>of his first term budgets, and he\u2019s called Social Security a \u201cPonzi scheme.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vox<\/a>: \u201cTrump said he wouldn\u2019t cut Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare. His 2020 budget cuts all 3.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets each proposed billions of dollars in cuts to Social Security programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: In his book, Trump lamented big cuts the program would need without changes, and said he would consider privatization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe truth is undeniable, the workers of America have been forced to invest a sixth of our wages into a huge Ponzi scheme,\u201d Trump wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump can\u2019t hide from his shameful record of attacking Social Security \u2014 he\u2019s repeatedly promised to threaten the pocketbooks of America\u2019s seniors. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
