Inflation is ticking higher. <\/strong>And Trump\u2019s solutions consist of the same blunt tactics he holds up in the face of any economic headache: Do tariffs. Deport people. Drill baby drill. <strong>The irony is that many of these policies are likely to have the opposite effect.<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inflation was falling steadily for two years. Now, that slowdown is reversing course, and prices are rising faster under Trump than they were at the end of Biden\u2019s term.<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trump\u2019s economic agenda doesn\u2019t have much buy-in from mainstream economists, and the administration has over the past three weeks started to walk back some of the \u201cDay One\u201d promises.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>[M]eanwhile, consumers will keep seething over the price of eggs, which were up 15% last month, and gas and housing lately. <strong>A CBS poll this week showed that nearly two-thirds of Americans think Trump hasn\u2019t focused enough of his policies on reducing inflation.<\/strong> And a University of Michigan consumer survey released Friday showed that Americans\u2019 inflation expectations for the year ahead surged this month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Key Point: \u201c\u2018Starting on Day One,\u2019 Trump said at a campaign event in August, \u2018we will end inflation and make America affordable again.\u2019 Wednesday was Day 24.
