After Donald Trump spewed lies on the campaign trail claiming he\u2019d lower costs on \u201cDay One,\u201d consumer sentiment is now \u201cdown by a steep 10%\u201d<\/a> since January and a majority of Americans believe Trump \u201cisn\u2019t doing enough\u201d<\/a> to address inflation. And of course, we already know Trump\u2019s response: double down<\/a> on the same failed agenda that would jack up prices while trying to pass the buck by refusing to take any responsibility<\/a> for the economy for a year<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The American people deserve leaders who prioritize bringing down costs \u2014 but Trump and his billionaire Cabinet only care about lining their own pockets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a look at Americans\u2019 overwhelming disapproval of Trump\u2019s economic agenda. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: <\/strong>\u201cThe University of Michigan\u2019s latest survey, released Friday, showed that US consumer sentiment declined in February for the second consecutive month, according to a final reading, down by a steep 10% from January. That was double the decline initially reported earlier this month.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe latest decline in consumer sentiment was driven by worries over Trump\u2019s tariffs potentially jacking up prices. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNearly two thirds of US adults nationwide, 62%, said they feel Trump\u2019s isn\u2019t doing enough to address inflation. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll the drama around tariffs has affected Americans\u2019 perception of prices: Expectations for inflation in the year ahead surged this month to 4.3%, <\/strong>according to the Michigan survey, up a full percentage point from January to the highest level since November 2023.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wall Street Journal<\/a>: \u201cU.S. consumer confidence slid backward this month, reflecting expectations that tariffs proposed by the Trump administration on goods imports will lead to rising prices.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe University of Michigan\u2019s index of consumer sentiment tumbled to 64.7 at the end of February, well below January\u2019s 71.7.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn particular, the survey\u2019s gauge for buying conditions for durable goods\u2014those meant to last five years or more\u2014slumped, in large part due to fears that tariff-induced price increases are imminent. …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWeaker confidence was unanimous across groups by age, income and wealth.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: \u201cUS consumers\u2019 expectations for long-term inflation rose to the highest rate in three decades on concerns President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs will translate into higher prices. <\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInflation expectations have taken renewed importance as the prospect of trade wars is weighing on the outlook for prices paid by American consumers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLong-run inflation expectations are now higher than the two years that preceded the pandemic and \u2018exhibit substantial uncertainty, particularly in light of policy changes under the new presidential administration,\u2019 according to a separate report on inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
