More than four months after Election Day, disgraced Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin continues to drag out the race he lost while wasting North Carolinians\u2019 tax dollars. Despite losing multiple court battles over his efforts to discard more than 65,000 lawful ballots cast in his race, Griffin continues to push baseless claims of fraud in a desperate, self-serving attempt to overturn a free and fair election. Griffin\u2019s attacks are completely anti-democratic and set a dangerous precedent. It is far past time for\u00a0 Griffin to concede.

WUNC<\/strong><\/a>: In legal filings, former elections directors and military leaders oppose Griffin’s ballot protests <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGriffin, a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals, trails Allison Riggs, the Democratic incumbent justice on the state Supreme Court, by 734 votes, as confirmed by two recounts. But Griffin is suing to discard more than 65,000 ballots over alleged irregularities. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLast month, a Wake County Superior Court judge affirmed the state elections board’s dismissal of Griffin’s case. Now, Griffin has taken the matter to the state Court of Appeals, where oral arguments will be scheduled soon. The state appeals court is dominated by Republicans, including one judge who contributed to Griffin’s legal expense fund. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Months after an election has occurred and ballots have been counted (and recounted), (Griffin) seeks to reverse the outcome of that election by changing the election rules and disqualifying the ballots of voters who faithfully followed state procedures,\u2019 former military leaders and the relatives of service members said in a legal brief.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFour months after the 2024 election, and after recounts affirmed his loss, a North Carolina judge running for a seat on the state\u2019s high court has yet to concede. Instead, Jefferson Griffin is still trying to remove more than 65,000 voters\u2019 ballots from the count, contending they were not lawfully able to vote. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGriffin wants to discard these votes because he alleges their registration information was incomplete, among other arguments, but voting rights advocates say the effort will disenfranchise eligible voters, including new voters and those who have been voting successfully for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018We view this case as a harbinger for what could come in other states, if this is viewed as an example to draw upon in future elections, and we also view it as an example of what at least some members of the Republican party are willing to do in order to win at the cost of our democratic system,\u2019 said Ann Webb, policy director with Common Cause North Carolina.\u201d \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
