One year ago, Donald Trump told the American people he\u2019d be open to <\/em>\u201ccutting\u201d<\/em><\/a> Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid \u2014 and this week, his shadow president Elon Musk is once again saying the quiet part out loud, threatening to <\/em>\u201celiminate\u201d<\/em><\/a> critical programs that serve millions of working people. Trump and his billionaire Cabinet are making their plans clear: tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy and mega-corporations, and cuts to lifesaving earned benefits for the rest of us.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBillionaire presidential adviser Elon Musk called entitlement spending \u2014 including Social Security and Medicare \u2014 a key target for cuts <\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMusk, who is guiding President Donald Trump\u2019s government downsizing effort, said Monday that entitlements with annual budgets of hundreds of billions of dollars were ripe for steep reductions. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018Most of the federal spending is entitlements,\u2019 Musk said in an interview with Fox Business\u2019 Larry Kudlow. \u2018So that\u2019s like the big one to eliminate.\u2019 \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocrats, for their part, have raised concerns that DOGE\u2019s targets for spending reductions will mean that retirement and health care programs will be in the cross-hairs. Those worries have sparked a wave of angry constituents at town hall meetings, prompting some Republicans to cancel in-person events with voters.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year ago today, Donald Trump said that \u201cthere is a lot you can do\u201d to cut Medicare and Social Security for millions of Americans and proposed cuts to the programs every year of his first term. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets each proposed billions of dollars in cuts to Social Security programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
