This Medicaid Awareness Month, Donald <\/em>Trump<\/em><\/a> is still pushing an <\/em>overwhelmingly unpopular plan<\/em><\/a> to strip health care from millions of Americans, including kids, seniors, and folks in rural communities. At every turn, <\/em>Republicans<\/em><\/a> have made clear they\u2019re ready to put Medicaid on the chopping block in order to line the pockets of Trump\u2019s billionaire backers. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Trump and his MAGA minions in Congress have repeatedly tried to gut Medicaid and threaten health care for <\/strong>79 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Ferris, CNN<\/a>: \u201cHouse budget plan is out.<\/strong> Besides 2 years of debt limit + $4.5T in tax cuts and $200B in border, there\u2019s BIG news for fiscal hawks <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt calls for $2T in *mandatory* cuts, aka Medicaid<\/strong>, since Trump has ruled out Medicare\/SS\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sahil Kapur<\/a>: \u201cChuck Schumer offered an amendment to the Republican budget resolution to prohibit tax cuts for the wealthy if even $1 is cut from Medicaid.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was rejected 49-51.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDemocrats unanimously voted YES<\/strong>, joined by Collins and Hawley. Other Republicans voted NO<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Health News<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans in Washington say they plan to use funding cuts and regulatory changes to dramatically shrink Medicaid, the nearly $900-billion-a-year government health insurance program that, along with the related Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program, serves about 79 million mostly low-income or disabled Americans.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the GOP\u2019s plans to shrink Medicaid are realized, Democrats and health experts say, low-income people forced to buy private insurance would face challenges paying monthly premiums<\/strong> and the large copayments and deductibles common to commercial plans that typically don\u2019t exist in Medicaid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets, Trump repeatedly proposed hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgetown University Center for Children and Families<\/a>: \u201cCuts to Medicaid<\/strong> Will Shift Costs to Families, Providers and Will Be Especially Harmful to Rural Communities\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMedicaid covers almost 80 million people in total<\/strong> \u2013 roughly four times as many people as covered by the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces and considerably more than the roughly 48 million seniors covered by Medicare.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: <\/strong>\u201cRural nursing home closures are a concern<\/strong> for Nate Schema, president and CEO of Good Samaritan, the nation\u2019s largest nonprofit nursing home and senior living provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe society operates 105 nursing homes in eight states that serve about 10,000 residents. In more than a dozen of its rural facilities, about 70% of residents are Medicaid beneficiaries<\/strong>, Schema said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services administrator nominee, Dr. Mehmet Oz, doubled down on extreme plans to gut Medicaid. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ron Wyden<\/a>: \u201cWill you agree \u2026 to oppose any cuts to the Medicaid program?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mehmet Oz: *Dodges*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Wyden: \u201cThat\u2019s not the question, doctor. The question is, will you oppose cuts to this program?\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
