Following tonight\u2019s election results in Florida\u2019s 6th congressional district, Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCongratulations to Josh Weil for running a strong campaign. In 2025, Democrats have overperformed the top of the ticket in nearly every election as voters turn out in blue, purple, and red districts to voice their anger at Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Tonight was no different. Trump promised to lower costs on Day One. Instead, he and his shadow president Elon Musk have taken a chainsaw to our economy and jeopardized programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. From a Pennsylvania Democrat winning in a deep-red district last week to Donald Trump being terrified of losing Elise Stefanik\u2019s seat, Republicans everywhere know a reckoning is coming \u2013 Democrats are taking the majority in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tonight\u2019s special election in Florida is only the latest evidence showing that Trump, Musk and Republicans across the country are in big trouble, even in deep-red districts. Last week, Democrat James Malone claimed an upset victory in an R+23 district in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, crediting voters\u2019 anger at Trump\u2019s chaos as a major factor in his race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fact, throughout 2025, Democrats have consistently overperformed Republicans in special elections. Earlier this year, Democrats maintained control of the Virginia House of Delegates and Virginia Senate. In Iowa, Democrat Mike Zimmer flipped a district Trump won by 21 points, overperforming the top of the November ticket by 14 points, while Democrat Nannette Griffin overperformed by 24 points. In March, Minnesota Dems held the Minnesota Senate and won a House seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n All of these elections, including tonight\u2019s special elections in Florida, spell major trouble for Trump and Republicans.
