Yesterday, the DNC laid out the reality to voters nationwide: Trump has done nothing but screw over working families during his first 100 days in office. Since Day 1, Trump has refused to make good on his campaign promises; instead, he and his GOP henchmen are making life harder and more expensive for working families by slashing federal funding; threatening Medicaid<\/a>, Social Security<\/a>, and SNAP<\/a>; skyrocketing costs<\/a>; and dragging our economy to negative growth and the brink of a recession<\/a>. As voters grow increasingly fed up with Trump\u2019s out-of-touch agenda that puts them last, it\u2019s no surprise that Trump is seeing the lowest<\/a> approval ratings of any president at this stage in 80 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The message is clear: By every metric, Trump has been a disaster for Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a look at the impact of Trump\u2019s disastrous first 100 days in states: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Wisconsin: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccording to the Department of Labor, 55,182 unemployment filings have occurred in Wisconsin since Trump took office in January, while 1,109 people have been laid off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump\u2019s Republican-controlled Congress has also taken aim at Medicaid and SNAP benefits in budget negotiations, putting millions of Wisconsinites and children at risk of losing health care and food assistance benefits. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOver 1.2 million people in Wisconsin rely on Social Security benefits for retirement, and several Republicans have floated changes to the program where young workers would see their benefits reduced. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump is reportedly planning to unveil a budget that would completely eliminate Head Start, putting $204 million in funding for nearly 15,000 Wisconsin children at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDepartment of Labor data shows nearly 58,000 unemployment filings in Georgia under Trump\u2019s watch, with 2,400 Georgians laid off since he took office. Some economists are warning of a possible looming recession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMeanwhile, as Republicans in Congress continue to look for ways to pay for extending the Trump tax cuts issued in his first term, which are about to expire if not renewed, including by mulling the possibility of cuts to Medicaid. Nearly 2 million Georgians rely on Medicaid, while the safety net medical program covers 42% of kids in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLikewise, GOP lawmakers are also eyeing cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides monthly funds for low income families to buy food. SNAP supports more than 1.4 million Georgia residents, most of whom live at or below the poverty level. And of those recipients, more than 69% are families with children. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe DNC also points to efforts by the Trump administration to dismantle the Education Department, a move the group says has already impacted education funding. Georgia receives $5.3 billion in federal funds that benefit rural, disabled, and low-income students. Efforts to gut the federal public education agency, the DNC says, have already threatened $675 million in Title 1 funding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s federal budget\u2014given a rubber stamp by Congressional Republicans\u2014would have an impact that would far outlast his presidency, as it includes a ten-year reduction in funding for essential services like Medicaid and Social Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFunding for education initiatives has been put on the chopping block as well, as plans to dismantle the US Department of Education are well underway. This would include the elimination of the Head Start program, which would eliminate jobs for over 800 preschool teachers and take over $300 million away from education funding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile Republicans celebrate Trump\u2019s return to the White House, Democrats say the country is now worse off. Tuesday morning, the DNC released its own rundown of Trump\u2019s time in office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Democrats\u2019 \u2018snapshot\u2019 cites federal numbers that show Michigan was among the leaders in new unemployment claims for the most recent period, with more than 80,000 unemployment claims filed in the state since Trump took office. (There were more than 230,000 new claims in the state during the first 100 days of the Biden administration, though that time coincided with emergency orders and a surge in cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.) Democrats also say Trump\u2019s actions could put heavily-relied-on government services and social safety net programs like Head Start at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile supporters of Trump\u2019s vision see his moves as steps to get rid of wasteful spending in the name of efficiency, DNC deputy executive director Libby Schneider said the moves are destabilizing.
