This budget is a slap in the face to working families, who will pay more and get less in Trump\u2019s America. As costs skyrocket, Trump is cutting Medicare and Medicaid, hollowing out our public schools, and decimating small businesses. This Project 2025 budget won\u2019t help Americans put food on the table or a roof over their head \u2014 it will just help Trump ship massive tax handouts over to his billionaire backers.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW: Donald Trump just put forth his disastrous budget that would devastate working families and defund critical programs from health care to public education. Here\u2019s a snapshot of what his budget would do:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$674 million<\/a> from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) program management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$4.5 billion<\/a> from K-12 education\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$2.5 billion<\/a> in funding for states for clean water infrastructure\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slash over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$26 billion<\/a> from federal rental assistance programs\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$721 million<\/a> from USDA\u2019s Rural Development programs, including money for broadband, businesses, and housing loans\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cut <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">$315 million<\/a> in preschool development grants, eliminating the program\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump has launched attacks on affordable health care since Day One, and his budget slashes $674 million from the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services while threatening critical family planning and preventive health services for nearly 3 million Americans.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office Of Management And Budget<\/a>: <strong>\u201cCenter for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Program Management \u2026 It eliminates health equity-focused activities and Inflation Reduction Act-related outreach and education activities.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/04\/14\/trump-federal-medicaid-funding-states\">Axios<\/a>: <strong>\u201cTrump admin shrinks federal Medicaid funding available<\/strong> to states\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Trump administration is cutting off a key Medicaid financing tool used to help states pay for<\/strong> health care programs it says diverge from the program\u2019s core mission, including <strong>high-speed internet for rural health providers.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2025\/04\/11\/trump-ends-federal-funding-some-non-medical-services-in-medicaid\/\">STAT<\/a>: \u201cCMS said federal funding for these programs has grown from $886 million in 2019 to nearly $2.7 billion this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/03\/10\/trump-ditches-biden-era-aca-flexibilities\">Axios<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThe Trump administration wants to roll back Biden-era changes to make signing up for Affordable Care Act marketplace plans easier \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cBetween 750,000 and 2 million people will lose their health insurance <\/strong>if all the changes are implemented as proposed, CMS wrote in the rule.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office of Management and Budget<\/a>: <strong>\u201c[F]amily planning programs (-$286 million), which use taxpayers funds to nonprofits that are not aligned with several Administration policies.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/research-evaluation\/title-x-services-research\/family-planning-annual-report-fpar\">OASH<\/a>:<strong> \u201cTitle X provided services to 2.8 million clients in 2023, a 7% increase from 2022.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTitle X continued to play a fundamental role in providing affordable family planning and preventive health services nationwide to clients in families with low incomes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opa.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-10\/2023-FPAR-National-Summary-Report.pdf\">OASH<\/a>:<strong> <\/strong>\u201cThe program awards competitive grants to a diverse, nationwide network of health care organizations, including state health agencies, city and county health departments, freestanding family planning clinics, and nonprofit community-based organizations. In fiscal year 2023, the program received approximately $286.5 million in federal funding\u2014an annual allocation unchanged since 2015.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>After moving to shut down the Department of Education, Trump wants to rip away billions in funding from preschoolers and K-12 students.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/education\/5179987-trump-executive-order-department-of-education-linda-mcmahon\/\">The Hill<\/a>: <strong>\u201cTrump signs executive order to dismantle Department of Education\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office of Management and Budget<\/a>:<strong> \u201cPreserve Title I and Streamline K-12 Programs \u2026 -4,535 [in millions] \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis new, simplified funding structure <strong>requires fewer Federal staff<\/strong> and empowers States and districts to make spending decisions based on their needs, <strong>consistent with the recent reduction in workforce and Executive Orders. <\/strong>The new approach allows States and districts to focus on the core subjects\u2014math, reading, science, and history\u2014without the distractions of DEI and weaponization from the previous administration.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office of Management and Budget<\/a>: <strong>\u201cPreschool Development Grants (PDG) \u2026 -315 [in millions] \u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConsistent with the Administration\u2019s priority to return education to the States, which are best equipped to fund and tailor education programs to the needs of their residents, <strong>the Budget eliminates PDG.<\/strong>\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/fact-sheet-using-federal-preschool-grant-to-build-state-early-learning-systems\/\">Center for American Progress<\/a>: <strong>\u201c[PDG] is the only federal program specifically authorized to increase collaboration and quality across child care, Head Start, state prekindergarten, and home visiting programs, as well as the various state agencies that oversee these programs.<\/strong> PDG B-5 helps ensure that early care and learning systems are as streamlined and efficient as possible, increasing equitable access for all families.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Trump\u2019s budget calls for cutting nearly $2.5 billion in funding for clean water infrastructure and more than $700 million in rural programs, including money for broadband, businesses, and housing loans.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office of Management and Budget<\/a>: <strong>\u201cWhen it comes to water infrastructure, the States should be responsible for funding their own water infrastructure projects.\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf\">Office of Management and Budget<\/a>: <strong>\u201cNo new USDA funding is needed for broadband expansion<\/strong> \u2026 The Budget would also eliminate programs that are duplicative, too small to have <strong>macro-economic impact,<\/strong> costly to deliver, in limited demand, available through the private sector, or conceived as temporary. <strong>These include rural business programs, single family housing direct loans, self-help housing grants, telecommunications loans, and rural housing vouchers. <\/strong>Rural Development salaries and expenses are reduced commensurately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This disastrous budget agenda will also gut federal rental assistance programs, cutting funding by more than $26 billion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2025\/05\/02\/us\/trump-budget-2026?smid=url-share#2f742a05-0670-5cb5-a314-68209ae3dba8\">New York Times<\/a>: \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s budget proposes a significant rethink of federal rental assistance programs, consolidating a number of them \u2014 and cutting them by more than $26 billion \u2014 next fiscal year.
