\u201cHoward Lutnick<\/strong>, the commerce secretary, has said Mr. Trump\u2019s policies are \u2018worth it\u2019 even if they cause a recession. Scott Bessent<\/strong>, the Treasury secretary, has said the economy may need a \u2018detox period\u2019<\/strong> after becoming dependent on government spending. And Mr. Trump has said there will be a \u2018period of transition\u2019<\/strong> as his policies take effect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just 100 Days, Trump has tanked the economy, bringing it to the brink of a recession.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN<\/a>: \u201cTrump took the US economy to the brink of a crisis in just 100 days\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAmericans were desperate for relief from high grocery prices and bought into Trump\u2019s promise to make America affordable again in November 2024, partly out of nostalgia for the pre-pandemic economy of his first term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut the president deliberately and singlehandedly adopted policies that are almost certain to spike prices even more; that could lead to shortages; and that have CEOs and small businesses dealing with chaos and the possibility of a recession.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reuters<\/a>: \u201cRisks are high that the global economy will slip into recession this year, according to a majority of economists in a Reuters poll<\/strong>, in which scores said U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs have damaged business sentiment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A majority of Americans believe the economy is on the wrong track under Trump \u2014 including Republicans. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: \u201cUS consumer sentiment fell to one of the lowest readings on record and long-term inflation expectations climbed to the highest since 1991 on fears of the economic fallout from tariffs. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAbout two-thirds of respondents see their inflation-adjusted incomes falling in the year ahead. Nearly as many expect unemployment to rise.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conference Board<\/a>: \u201cNotably, the share of consumers expecting fewer jobs in the next six months (32.1%) was nearly as high as in April 2009, in the middle of the Great Recession.<\/strong> In addition, expectations about future income prospects turned clearly negative for the first time in five years, suggesting that concerns about the economy have now spread to consumers worrying about their own personal situations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
