A new report<\/a> shows that no matter how Donald Trump and the GOP attempt to spin their reckless agenda, the truth is that under Republicans\u2019 disastrous plans, millions of hardworking Americans could lose their health care to pay for another tax break for billionaires. Trump and his MAGA cronies have made it clear they have no interest in supporting working families \u2014 just passing another tax handout for the ultra-wealthy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NEW REPORT: No matter how Donald Trump and the GOP try to spin their disastrous plan to gut Medicaid, several proposed policies would leave millions of Americans uninsured.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congressional Budget Office<\/a>: \u201c[GOP] Options 1 through 4 would reduce the resources available to states to fund Medicaid programs<\/strong>, either in the form of smaller reimbursements or smaller tax revenues from providers \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[I]n response<\/strong> to the loss of the other half of the resources, states would <\/strong>modify their Medicaid programs and reduce Medicaid spending using three levers: reduce provider payment rates, reduce the scope or amount of optional services, and reduce Medicaid enrollment. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCBO projects, some states that would expand [ACA] eligibility for Medicaid in the agency\u2019s baseline projections would no longer do so<\/strong> \u2026 [and] CBO expects that states would reduce enrollment by eliminating optional coverage categories and<\/strong> by changing enrollment policies and procedures to make enrollment more challenging to navigate. \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnder each of those options, Medicaid enrollment would decrease and the number of people without health insurance would increase. \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOption 1. <\/strong>Reduce Expansion Population Matching Rate \u2026 Increase in Uninsured People \u2026 2.4 [million] \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOption 2.<\/strong> Limit State Taxes on Health Care Providers \u2026 Increase in Uninsured People \u2026 3.9 [million] \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOption 3.<\/strong> Cap on Spending Per Enrollee [for] All Eligibility Groups \u2026 Increase in Uninsured People \u2026 2.9 [Million] \u2026<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOption 4.<\/strong> Cap on Spending Per Enrollee [for] Expansion Only \u2026 Increase in Uninsured People \u2026 1.5 [million] \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOption 5.<\/strong> Repeal Eligibility and Enrollment Final Rule \u2026 Increase in Uninsured People \u2026 0.6 [million].\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans released a new budget blueprint Wednesday that would pave the way for \u2026 making President Donald Trump\u2019s 2017 tax cuts permanent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF<\/a>: \u201cCongress is currently targeting up to $880 billion or more in federal Medicaid spending reductions.<\/strong> The House passed a budget resolution instructing the House Energy & Commerce Committee (E&C) to reduce the federal deficit by at least $880 billion over 10 years. Although the budget resolution does not mention Medicaid, Medicaid comprises $8.2 trillion out of the $8.6 trillion in mandatory spending that E&C must use to come up with spending reductions (assuming Medicare cuts are off the table). As a result, major cuts to Medicaid are the only way to meet the House\u2019s budget resolution required $880 billion (or more) in spending reductions.\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump and the GOP\u2019s plan to gut Medicaid and threaten health care for <\/strong>79 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans will devastate seniors, children, and rural folks.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his FY18<\/a>, FY19<\/a>, FY20<\/a>, and FY21<\/a> budgets, Trump repeatedly proposed hundreds of billions in cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KFF Health News<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans in Washington say they plan to use funding cuts and regulatory changes to dramatically shrink Medicaid, the nearly $900-billion-a-year government health insurance program that, along with the related Children\u2019s Health Insurance Program, serves about 79 million mostly low-income or disabled Americans.<\/strong> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdvocates for poor people fear GOP funding cuts will leave more Americans without insurance, making it harder for them to get care. <\/strong>\u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the GOP\u2019s plans to shrink Medicaid are realized, Democrats and health experts say, low-income people forced to buy private insurance would face challenges paying monthly premiums<\/strong> and the large copayments and deductibles common to commercial plans that typically don\u2019t exist in Medicaid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
