As House Republicans prepare to slash SNAP benefits during this week\u2019s markups, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Republican budget is a slap in the face to millions of Americans, including their own constituents, who rely on food assistance programs to put food on the table and make sure their kids don\u2019t go hungry. As Donald Trump makes groceries more expensive, his cronies in Congress are gearing up to rip away food from millions of Americans \u2014 all to fund another tax handout for the ultra-wealthy and ultra-elite. The MAGA Republican agenda couldn\u2019t be clearer: billionaires first, working families last.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of their disastrous markup this week, House Republicans are preparing to gut SNAP benefits to make permanent Trump\u2019s tax handouts for his billionaire backers and add <\/strong>\u201cmore [tax] breaks\u201d<\/strong><\/a> for the ultra-wealthy. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRepublicans plan to slash federal nutrition assistance for low-income individuals <\/strong>and update a host of farm bill programs under the House Agriculture Committee\u2019s portion of a sweeping package paying for President Donald Trump\u2019s tax cut \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStates would front Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit costs for the first time<\/strong>\u2014between 5% and 25%\u2014 beginning fiscal year 2028\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of a markup beginning Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., the text will put details behind a slew of proposals Republicans are pushing as they look to cut $230 billion in federal spending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NBC News<\/a>: \u201cSenate Republicans released a new budget blueprint Wednesday that would pave the way for \u2026 making President Donald Trump\u2019s 2017 tax cuts permanent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cutting SNAP benefits \u2014 which help over <\/strong>40 million<\/strong><\/a> Americans put food on the table \u2014 would force working families and children to go hungry. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center for Budget Policies and Priorities<\/a>: \u201cMillions of Low-Income Households Would Lose Food Aid Under Proposed House Republican SNAP Cuts\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe [House] budget resolution<\/strong> \u2026 directs the House Agriculture Committee to cut programs in its jurisdiction by at least $230 billion through 2034, with these cuts expected to come largely or entirely from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)<\/strong> and to be used to help pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest business owners and households. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRegardless of how Republican lawmakers enact a cut of this magnitude, this would slash more than 20 percent from a program that helps more than 40 million people, including 1 in 5 children, afford groceries.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
