In response to House Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee advancing their disastrous budget resolution to give tax handouts to the rich, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump is pushing a disastrous budget to kick Americans off their health care and let kids go hungry in order to fund another round of tax handouts to billionaires. There is nothing moderate \u2014 or moral \u2014 about taking food off the table of working families, stripping health care away, and giving billionaires handouts while everyday Americans are struggling. While Trump fights only for his ultra-elite backers, Democrats are standing up for working families and holding Republicans accountable for their \u2018billionaire-first\u2019 agenda.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee voted to advance their disastrous funding agenda to put their billionaire backers ahead of working families and fund <\/strong>\u201cmore [tax] breaks\u201d<\/strong><\/a> for the ultra-wealthy. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

USA Today<\/a>: \u201cLow-income families would lose, wealthier ones would gain under GOP tax proposals\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLow-income families stand to lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars in income while wealthy ones will gain even more<\/strong>, according to a new analysis of Congressional Republican tax and budget proposals. \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe report estimated that families with a modified adjusted gross income of less than $10,000 would lose over $2,700<\/strong> (or nearly a 15% reduction in income). Families who make between $10,000 and $20,000 would lose over $800<\/strong>, or about 4.4% reduction in income, while families who make between $20,000 and $30,000 would lose $400<\/strong>, or about 1.5% reduction in income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn comparison, families with higher incomes would benefit<\/strong> from the extension of the 2017 tax cuts.\u201d
<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Axios<\/a>: \u201cThe draft legislation would extend the cuts in the 2017 tax bill, and it adds on some more breaks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome will benefit the wealthiest, including a permanent increase to the deduction for pass-through income to 22% from 20%, plus a hike for the estate tax exemption<\/strong>, which would shield more inheritances from taxes.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Republicans and Democrats agree \u2014 this disastrous, billionaire-first agenda will cost hardworking Americans their jobs. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee is seeking to repeal key subsidies for electric vehicles and phase out many other clean energy tax incentives from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act<\/strong> as part of its portion of the GOP megabill, which the committee will begin marking up this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut some Senate Republicans say abruptly cutting off credits and changing key provisions that help fund projects more quickly could stifle investments<\/strong> in energy technologies needed to meet growing power demand, and lead to job losses for manufacturing and electricity projects<\/strong> in their states and districts.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMINDER: Republicans want to gut <\/strong>Medicaid<\/strong><\/a> and slash <\/strong>food assistance<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>for millions of Americans \u2014 devastating our seniors, children, and rural communities \u2014 to pay for another round of tax giveaways for billionaires. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
