In response to House Republicans advancing their budget to slash Medicaid and food assistance through markup, <\/em>DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s Republican Party is turning their backs on working families to suck up to billionaire donors. House Republicans just voted to push forward Trump\u2019s plan to rip away health care from 13.7 million Americans and slash $300 billion in food assistance benefits \u2014 just to fund massive tax handouts for the ultra-wealthy. The message for House Republicans is simple: Start working for your constituents or lose your seat in the midterms.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

House Republicans voted to put Medicaid and food assistance on the chopping block to fund Donald Trump\u2019s tax handouts for his billionaire backers. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cRepublicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday afternoon advanced legislation containing cuts to Medicaid and health care provisions \u2014 some of the most controversial and contentious provisions that will be included in the \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019 of President Trump\u2019s ambitious legislative agenda.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe panel voted along party lines 30-24 <\/strong>after a marathon meeting that lasted more than 26 hours with just two breaks for House votes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>: \u201cCBO\u2019s early estimates show that at least 13.7 million people would lose coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts and the ACA marketplace restrictions in this committee legislation, <\/strong>as well as the fact that the budget legislation does not extend expiring marketplace premium tax credit improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cHouse Agriculture Committee approves $300 billion in nutrition spending cuts\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe House Agriculture Committee voted 29-25 along party lines to advance legislation that would cut as much as $300 billion in food aid spending to pay for Republicans\u2019 domestic policy megabill and some farm bill programs. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe GOP proposal would create the largest overhaul in decades to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps more than 42 million people in the U.S. pay for food, by forcing states to share the cost of SNAP benefits.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg<\/a>: <\/strong>\u201cRural nursing home closures are a concern<\/strong> for Nate Schema, president and CEO of Good Samaritan, the nation\u2019s largest nonprofit nursing home and senior living provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe society operates 105 nursing homes in eight states that serve about 10,000 residents. In more than a dozen of its rural facilities, about 70% of residents are Medicaid beneficiaries<\/strong>, Schema said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
