The Republican budget is a toxic attack on hardworking Americans that would rip away health care and force children to go hungry to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. Let\u2019s be clear: nothing in this unpopular and dangerous budget is \u2018America First\u2019 \u2014 it\u2019s a \u2018billionaire first\u2019 handout to the ultra-wealthy. Democrats are ready to fight back against this extreme agenda, and make sure the GOP understands that their reckless policies will cost them at the ballot box.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>House Republicans on the Budget Committee voted to advance their disastrous funding agenda to make Trump\u2019s tax scam permanent and fund <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/05\/12\/social-security-salt-tax-bill\"><strong>\u201cmore [tax] breaks\u201d<\/strong><\/a><strong> for the ultra-wealthy.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/05\/19\/house-budget-reconciliation-vote\">Axios<\/a>: <strong>\u201cBudget panel sends Trump&#8217;s \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019 to House floor\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/05\/12\/gop-tax-proposals-cost-poor-help-wealthy\/83583573007\/\">USA Today<\/a>:<strong> \u201cLow-income families would lose, wealthier ones would gain under GOP tax proposals\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cLow-income families stand to lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars in income while wealthy ones will gain even more<\/strong>, according to a new analysis of Congressional Republican tax and budget proposals. \u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe report estimated that <strong>families with a modified adjusted gross income of less than $10,000 would lose over $2,700<\/strong> (or nearly a 15% reduction in income). <strong>Families who make between $10,000 and $20,000 would lose over $800<\/strong>, or about 4.4% reduction in income, while <strong>families who make between $20,000 and $30,000 would lose $400<\/strong>, or about 1.5% reduction in income.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIn comparison, families with higher incomes would benefit<\/strong> from the extension of the 2017 tax cuts.\u201d <strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/05\/12\/social-security-salt-tax-bill\">Axios<\/a>: <strong>\u201cThe draft legislation would extend the cuts in the 2017 tax bill, and it adds on some more breaks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cSome will benefit the wealthiest, including a permanent increase to the deduction for pass-through income to 22% from 20%, plus a hike for the estate tax exemption<\/strong>, which would shield more inheritances from taxes.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To pay for their tax giveaways for billionaires, House Republicans voted to gut Medicaid and slash food assistance<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>for millions of Americans.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/05\/14\/congress\/e-c-republicans-pass-health-care-piece-of-gop-tax-bill-after-marathon-overnight-session-00350223\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe <strong>House Energy and Commerce Committee, in a 30-to-24 party-line vote, advanced<\/strong> the health care section of <strong>the GOP\u2019s sweeping tax bill that would slash Medicaid spending by hundreds of billions<\/strong> of dollars.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/05\/14\/congress\/house-agriculture-committee-approves-300-billion-in-nutrition-spending-cuts-00350900\">Politico<\/a>: \u201cThe <strong>House Agriculture Committee voted 29-25 along party lines to <\/strong>advance legislation that would <strong>cut as much as $300 billion in food aid spending to pay for Republicans\u2019 domestic policy megabill\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Republicans\u2019 plan, including gutting Medicaid, will strip away health care from nearly 14 million Americans and devastate our children, seniors, and rural communities.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/research\/health\/house-republican-bill-would-cut-medicaid-funding-to-states-providing-own-health\">Center on Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>: \u201cCBO\u2019s early estimates show that <strong>at least 13.7 million people would lose coverage and become uninsured because of the Medicaid cuts and the ACA marketplace restrictions in this committee legislation, <\/strong>as well as the fact that the budget legislation does not extend expiring marketplace premium tax credit improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/westvirginiawatch.com\/2025\/03\/31\/medicaid-cuts-could-hurt-older-adults-who-rely-on-home-care-nursing-homes\/\">West Virginia Watch<\/a>: <strong>\u201cMedicaid cuts could hurt older adults who rely on home care, nursing homes\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/the-trump-administration-cracked-down-on-medicaid-kids-lost-insurance\">ProPublica<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump Administration Cracked Down on Medicaid.
