Donald Trump is attempting to violate the law \u2014 again \u2014 for his ultra-wealthy friends and help corporate polluters cut costs by dumping deadly chemicals into our drinking water. Trump is risking the lives of millions to line the pockets of his billionaire backers. Once again, Trump\u2019s agenda is clear: billionaires first, working families last.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a <\/strong>\u201cclear win\u201d<\/strong><\/a> for corporate polluters, Donald Trump is <\/strong>breaking<\/strong><\/a> the law to help corporate polluters save billions by dumping toxic chemicals into Americans\u2019 drinking water. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Post<\/a>: \u201cEPA will weaken rule curbing \u2018forever chemicals\u2019 in drinking water\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe drinking water rules were adopted<\/strong> as part of the Biden administration\u2019s efforts to limit public exposure to<\/strong> per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), hazardous chemicals linked to a range of serious illnesses. \u2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe EPA estimates that more than 158 million Americans are exposed to PFAS<\/strong> through their drinking water. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccording to the [EPA] estimates, the [Biden administration] standard would cost utilities about $1.5 billion a year.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Guardian<\/a>: \u201cThe EPA is attempting actions that violate the law<\/strong>, some say, and Biden administration\u2019s progress can\u2019t be fully undone \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c[T]he moves would deliver a clear win for the US chemical and water utility industries\u201d <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump administration previously rolled back environmental protections that protected children from toxic chemicals. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201cE.P.A. Set to Cancel Grants Aimed at Protecting Children From Toxic Chemicals\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe grants are designed to address<\/strong> a range of issues, including improving the health of children in rural America who have been exposed to pesticides from agriculture and other pollution; reducing exposure to wildfire smoke; and preventing \u2018forever chemicals\u2019 from contaminating the food supply<\/strong>. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany grants involve issues that affect regions of the country where voters supported Mr. Trump.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

REMINDER: Trump spent his first term putting corporate polluters\u2019 profits over the health and safety of Americans.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hill<\/a>: \u201cThe White House announced Tuesday that President Trump would likely veto legislation designed to manage a class of cancer-linked chemicals leaching into the water supply.\u201d<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York Times<\/a>: \u201c[S]cientists and administrators in the E.P.A.\u2019s Office of Water were alarmed<\/strong> in late May when a top Trump administration appointee insisted upon the rewriting of a rule to make it harder to track the health consequences of the [PFOA] chemical<\/strong>, and therefore regulate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe revision was among more than a dozen demanded by the appointee, Nancy B. Beck<\/strong>, after she joined the E.P.A.\u2019s toxic chemical unit in May as a top deputy. For the previous five years, she had been an executive at the American Chemistry Council, the chemical industry\u2019s main trade association.\u201d<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associated Press<\/a>: \u201cThe Trump White House has intervened to weaken one of the few public health protections<\/strong> pursued by its own administration, a rule to limit the use of a toxic industrial compound in consumer products, <\/strong>according to communications between the White House and Environmental Protection Agency.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Politico<\/a>: \u201cScott Pruitt\u2019s EPA and the White House sought to block publication of a federal health study on a nationwide water-contamination crisis<\/strong>, after one Trump administration aide warned it would cause a \u2018public relations nightmare,\u2019 newly disclosed emails reveal. \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe study would show that the chemicals endanger human health<\/strong> at a far lower level than EPA has previously called safe, according to the emails.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
